To My Beloved Mary. Runner-Up in Love Letters Through Time Challenge.
My Dearest Mary, The Admiralty has seen fit to cut my shore leave, wrenching me away from your embrace and the warmth of your kisses. They have ordered me back to the madness some call the Battle of the Atlantic. I cannot say where our course leads, but I pray that fate grants us a reprieve from the North Atlantic’s gales and treacherous sea, if only for a moment. The North Sea is a harsh and unyielding mistress, and though I have braved her many times, nothing wounds me so profoundly as being apart from you, my dear Mary. As the North Sea winds strike home, think of me, my darling, and pray I sail into quieter waters.

The Deportation at Bachelors Grove Cemetery Feb 2025. Top Story - February 2025.
Bachelors Grove Cemetery has been an urban legend in Chicago for decades. Since the late 1950s, strange disturbances plagued the once-forgotten burial ground—graves desecrated, headstones slipped over, and eerie lights flickering through the sparse trees. Paranormal investigators, thrill-seekers, and the occasional criminal prowled the grounds until the police patrolled the area nightly to keep away the curious, the reckless, and those with far darker intentions. The police patrols occasionally would come across something not easily explained away.

A Tribute to POP!
A Tribute sent with Love, respect and gratitude. Dear Bill, Words will never be enough to express the profound impact you had on my life and the paths I chose. The English language lacks the strength to fully capture my gratitude—the kindness and guidance you showed me, and the deep love I have for you and Helen.

Door Z-212
There was only one rule: don’t open the door. The rule had been in place for as long as anyone could remember. At first, there were guards outside of Door Z-212, this lasted for about five years. Why the door was forbidden to be opened after twenty years seemed to be forgotten and the story behind this rule was buried in the “Official Secrets Act”

The Invisble amongst us . Top Story - May 2024.
"In January 2021, I was driving to see my mother at a local hospital. Traffic halted suddenly, and I was so happy I did not strike the vehicle in front of me. I gazed up in my rear-view mirror just as the vehicle behind struck my little sub-compact vehicle. "

Your Gift Shall be Your Death
Preface. Writers are often asked where they start a story: at the beginning, the middle, or the end. Sometimes, there is no answer to this age-old question. Parts of this story may be fact-driven, or it may be just a fantasy or a bad dream driven by a concussion in a serious auto accident. We will let you, the reader, be the judge. One thing is for sure: By the end of this short story, the reader will know it was not created by A.I.

Act One, Sixty Year Olds Screen Odyssey
Mark Edward had been doing acting and background movie work for over four decades. It was never his bread-and-butter occupation but rather a refuge/escape from the demands of his full-time job, which often meant working with street-entrenched youth, street people, and parolees. Acting and background work allowed Mark to escape his life and become someone else for a few hours. He had enjoyed meeting new people and sometimes found that some took themselves far too seriously while others seemed to go with the flow. Some professional actors he would brush against on sets were funny, polite, and kind to those around them. Others, though, were pompous asses who appeared to believe the production or series would fail without their presence. This also often applies to crews, directors, and others on set. He thought of all these things, but today was different.

This is the Prayer & Confession
Today, September 3rd, 2023, was a day of change in our home. I watched my adult son borrow my old truck to move more of his things to his first home, which will be entirely his own. Suddenly, the lyrics of Harry Chapin's song "Cats and the Cradle and the Silver Spoon" came to mind.
