The Door that shall not be opened

There was only one rule: don’t open the door. The rule had been in place for as long as anyone could remember. At first, there were guards outside of Door Z-212, this lasted for about five years. Why the door was forbidden to be opened after twenty years seemed to be forgotten and the story behind this rule was buried in the “Official Secrets Act”

Eventually, much of the work at RAF Henley had moved on or was no longer required. The base was soon partially turned over to Her Majesty’s Prison Service or HHPS. However, the mostly underground building housing Door Z-212 was still under military control. It was rarely checked, though barbed wire, and a large iron gate surrounded three buildings, one of which housed door Z-212.

Large signs warned and threatened people to stay away.

Prisoners Matthew Housing and Keith Dunlaw, a few hundred meters away, executed a well-planned escape through military tunnels that still crisscrossed with the prison sewage system beneath the prison.

The tunnels were dark and smelled of sewage from recent repairs. Soon, the prison alarms whined out, their escape had been discovered.

In their panic, they reached Door Z-212, its faded warning sign referencing the “Official Secrets Act of 1942.”

“Let’s hide in here,” Dunlaw insisted, ignoring the sign. They pried the door open and entered the freezing, dark room. Both men nearly clung together as an icy wind whipped about them.

Suddenly, a voice echoed, “Freunde!” followed by another: “Aufgeben.”

Panicked, they bolted for the door, pried it back open and rushed into the arms of, correctional guards. The icy wind followed them, knocking guards and inmates against the wall. A single word boomed out “Rache”.

One guard Mathew Schmidt, shouted, “Revenge” looking to his partner.
