If Only
Phoebe ran up the stairs in front of me. It was the only way to get in and out of the basement of the lonely house perched on the cliffside plateau. A winding highway graced the cliffs above, whipping back and forth on its way to the Lonephalt city limits only a few miles away. It might as well had been a different world all the way out here. One I used to only dream of visiting with Phoebe.

Susan didn’t quite know what to think when she heard about something called the Shop of Horrors. It could be grotesque. Blood, guts, vital organs. Or creepy. Snakes, rats, maggots. Either way, the squat, pale yellow building on the right side of the road as she traveled north on Route 153 didn’t look too inviting. Somehow, it looked less like a place she wanted to stop in the daytime than at night. At least the broken neon sign that sputtered lights around the words Shop of Horrors in an uneven square were a jolly pink color.

Chapter Nine Leprechaun [leh-pruh-kahn]: The shortest creature in the monster realm, shorter even than the knees of a young human. They have orange-red hair, green tunics and hats, and full beards. Due to a love of gold and money, they serve as the debt collectors for the realm and live in the Hordes.

Chapter Eight Demon [dee-muhn]: A humanoid creature with renaissance flair, black lips, pointed ears, and black-lined eyes. They prefer not to be associated with the rest of the realm and consider Passage as a realm of its own, divided into eight smaller realms based on rainbow colors. Their king comes from the human realm.

Chapter Six Witch [wh-i-ch]: The sole occupant of Rubicon Point. The forest bends to her will, and she collects bits and pieces from living creatures (such as hair, sweat, nail clippings, or even whole organisms like a cat or frog). She uses these to craft potions in her cauldron.
