A Reflection on the Duke of Edinburgh's Life
Prince Philip passed away on the 9th of April 2021, a few weeks shy of what would have been his 100th birthday. A day after his passing, I stood in front of the river Thames amidst others who came to observe the gun salute. The mood surrounding the Tower of London could only be described as sombre and contemplative.

2005. My friends and I had just finished our morning lectures. We were famished. Let’s go for a pub lunch, one of us had said. We all agreed. As we stopped at the traffic light, a car drove past; the driver wound down his window and threw an egg that hit and splattered on the three of us. At least the egg wasn’t rotten, I remembered thinking. It was my first year at university, and my first year living in the UK.

I am not a relationship guru. What I am is an early millennial navigating the confusing world of modern dating through apps that have supposedly been “designed to be deleted”. Modern dating terrifies me. Considering that I met my previous boyfriends organically, loading up pictures of myself and including a short blurb that is meant to make me come across as fun, sophisticated, witty, intelligent and down-to-earth feels… fake, and desperate. My male friends confessed that they hardly read the other person’s profile, if at all. Yet, we continue to write our fun, sophisticated, witty, intelligent, down-to-earth blurbs and send our wishes profiles out to the massive universe called the internet.

The Day I Walked Away
It was 5 in the morning. I arrived at London Heathrow, groggy after having slept poorly on a 13-hour flight. As I dragged my 25kg luggage towards the Arrival Hall, I saw a man in a suit holding up a sign with my name on it. Just as I wondered who had ordered a taxi for me, I saw you running past the driver in my direction. You held my hand and flashed me an awkward smile. Your ring felt like ice against my skin.
