My nose began twitching because I could feel winter’s touch
Chimney’s began to burn hot
I can hear the wood crackling and I can smell the cherry in the smoke
I enjoy the sound of leaves rustling under my feet
Soon enough we’ll have to stop ourselves from sliding
Straight down the street, right into a pile of snow
With ice so cold to the touch it stings
We have mixed feelings, but the joy it brings is exhilarating
The memories that we lock in makes it all worth the waiting
Captivating is just me stating a few facts
Winter is cold, but it is followed with a warmth from the homes
A warmth that happens to be traditions years old
Hot chocolate and marshmallows has always been a favorite
Followed by fluffy blankets and pillows
While waiting on a Saturday morning breakfast
When I close my eyes I can still smell my mommas homefries
I can smell the sausages, bacon, eggs, grits and biscuits
Them nostalgic Saturday mornings was always a hit
It was never a miss
If I could hop inside a time portal and travel back to any of it
promise that I would be the first one in line
To sit down and have breakfast with both my parents just one more time
The mittens and earmuffs adds an extra layer of protection
I hated thermals as a child but now I embrace it
I can now taste it deep down in my bones
If I don’t keep them protected, it feels like my blood is all gone
So understand, winter can be cold and sweet, or bitter as lemon tea
However at the end of the day, winter will be, what winter will be
