What if Oedipus knew his fate
What if he knew he’d kill his sire

Bénigne Gagneraux, The Blind Oedipus Commending his Children to the Gods
Oedipus, a noble king,
Sought the truth in everything.
A plague had come, the people cried,
"Find Laius’ killer," they all sighed.
He searched the land both far and near,
Unaware the truth was near.
A tale of fate began to show,
What he must learn, he feared to know.
He killed a man one fateful day,
Not knowing he had lost his way.
His mother-wife, the truth would see,
And end her life in tragedy.
Oedipus wept, then struck his eyes,
Blinded now by fate and lies.
He walked away, alone and torn,
A tragic soul, by sorrow worn.
