The color of grey

The power of colors

By Dylan StephensPublished about a year ago 2 min read

Once upon a time, in a world where colors could speak, there was a kingdom divided by the hues of the rainbow. Each color ruled its own territory—The Red Highlands, The Blue Oceans, The Green Forests, and so on. The colors lived in harmony for centuries, until a mysterious shadow appeared, stealing the voices of the hues one by one.

Without their voices, the colors began to fade. Red no longer burned with passion, Blue lost its depth and calmness, and Green withered, leaving the kingdom in a dull, muted state. The only color left untouched by the shadow was Violet, a small, quiet village nestled at the very end of the rainbow.

In this village lived a young artist named Iris. She had always felt like an outsider, painting vibrant scenes of faraway lands while her fellow villagers embraced their soft, subtle shades. But when the shadow reached the Violet Hills, she noticed something strange—her paintings still shone bright, even as the world around her dulled.

Realizing her brush had the power to bring back color, Iris set out on a journey to the heart of the shadow, armed with nothing but her paints and an old, enchanted canvas. Along the way, she encountered the ghostly remains of the other colors: a silent Red dragon, a frozen Blue waterfall, and an abandoned Green village. With each brushstroke, she restored a bit of their vibrance, and they offered her clues about the shadow’s origin.

In time, Iris discovered the shadow was not an enemy but a forgotten color—Grey, once banished for being too “boring.” Grey had grown resentful over time, pulling all the colors into itself out of loneliness. But Iris saw beauty in Grey, a balance that tied all the other colors together. She used her brush to paint a masterpiece where Grey was at the center, surrounded by every hue.

As the painting came to life, Grey found its place among the colors, no longer an outcast but a crucial part of the spectrum. The kingdom’s vibrancy returned, brighter than ever, and the once-muted lands flourished again.

Iris was celebrated as a hero, not just for her skill, but for her vision—to see the value in what others had cast aside. From that day forward, she became the Royal Painter, ensuring that no color, no matter how small or forgotten, would ever lose its voice again.
