The Brave Sparrow: A Tale of Freedom and Kindness

BY:Ubaid

I am a sparrow living in a place called Syed Zain-ul-Abad. Just like humans, we also have families. In my family, there are my mother and father, along with my two sisters. I am the eldest among my siblings. Life for us sparrows is always full of dangers. When we are flying in the sky, we have to be careful of predators like crows and hawks. A single mistake can turn us into their prey. But the sky is not the only place where we face danger; the ground is even riskier. On land, we must be more alert than in the air because dogs, cats, and other creatures are always on the lookout for us. Humans, too, can pose a threat to our lives.

One day, there was no food left in our nest. Everyone in my family was very hungry. My mother and father had gone out searching for food, leaving my two sisters and me alone. My sisters were crying because of hunger. Seeing their tears, I could not remain calm. I decided that I had to go to the ground and search for food myself. With courage, I flew down to a nearby area and landed near a shop where I saw a lot of grains scattered around.

As soon as I stepped onto the ground to collect some grains, I found myself trapped in a net meant for catching birds. I had never imagined that humans could do such a thing. Panic filled me as I struggled to free myself, but the net was too strong. Soon, the shopkeeper came and took me out of the net, placing me into a cage. Inside the cage were many other birds, all trapped like me. My heart sank. I began to feel hatred and fear toward humans. I missed my home terribly. I longed to be free and fly again in the sky, but the cage seemed impossible to escape.

I had no choice but to pray to Allah, asking for my freedom. Tears streamed down my face as I sat helplessly in the cage, thinking of my family and wishing I could be with them again. Days passed slowly, and I never lost hope. Then, one day, a boy came to the shop with his mother. They noticed the trapped birds and showed concern for us. The boy’s mother told the shopkeeper that if he freed the birds, they would pray for him in return. She gave the shopkeeper some money as a token of appreciation.

Moved by their words, the shopkeeper opened the cage and let us birds go free. I could not believe my luck. Finally, I was free to spread my wings and fly again. I soared high into the sky, feeling the wind beneath my feathers. The world seemed brighter, and I felt an indescribable joy as I flew over the fields and houses. My heart was filled with gratitude.

I immediately returned to my nest to reunite with my family. As soon as my parents and sisters saw me, they were overjoyed. My mother chirped happily, and my father looked relieved. My sisters hugged me as much as birds can hug, and I could sense their happiness. That day, I realized an important lesson: not all humans are cruel. Some people are kind and compassionate, willing to help even the smallest of creatures.

From that day onward, I became more cautious but also more hopeful. I learned that while life is full of dangers, kindness can appear in the most unexpected ways. I also understood the importance of faith and patience. Even in difficult moments, I kept praying and believing that Allah would guide me toward safety.

Now, whenever I fly high in the sky or hop on the ground, I remain alert, but I also cherish the freedom that I fought so hard to regain. My journey taught me bravery, patience, and the goodness that exists in the world. I often share this story with my sisters, hoping that they, too, understand the balance between caution and hope. And every time I see a kind human, my heart fills with gratitude, reminding me that while danger exists, love and compassion are never too far away.

In the end, being a sparrow taught me that life is full of surprises. Some may bring fear, while others bring freedom and joy. What truly matters is never giving up, staying hopeful, and appreciating the moments of kindness that make the world a better place.
