Malaysia Pathu Malai Murugan Temple
Batumalai Cave Murugan Temple is one of the temples in Malaysia where a large number of Tamils (Hindus) as well as Chinese come to worship. This temple is 13 kilometers away from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Lord Muruga here is known as Subramanya Swamy. It is noteworthy that apart from the Hindus, the Chinese also pray for their grievances in this Bathumalai cave Murugan temple and pay the fine debt by praying like the Hindus by piercing the unit and taking kavadi. Although it is a Hindu temple, the Thaipusad festival is celebrated every year in this Batumalai cave Murugan temple, which has become common to all without religious discrimination.
In a small cave in Batumalai, Malaysia, a Tamil devotee saw a veal- like figure visible in the rock and worshiped it by installing a bamboo and considering it as a vela. It is said that then a metal wall was installed and a temple was built for Lord Muruga”. Kayoraganam Pillai from Tirumalairayan Pattinam near Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu has settled in Malaysia and earned a lot. He also spent a part of his earned money for religious works. He built Mariamman Temple in Kuala Lumpur, Vinayagar Temple next to Kortu Hill, etc. He also built a temple for Lord Muruga in Batumalai Cave in 1890-91 . It is said that the first respect is given to the members of the Kayoraganam Pillai family on all festival days in these three temples.
There are two caves in this Batumalai. One goes very deep, very dark. Murugan has a temple in another cave. In the history of Nakkeerar, it is known that a goblin locked him in a cave, and there were already 999 people locked in there, and including Nakkeerar, their number became a thousand, and after the number of people reached a thousand, the goblin planned to eat them. There are no mountain temples of Murugan in Tamil Nadu with caves large enough to hold a thousand people. Because the goblins are capable of crossing the ocean, it would be this Batumalai cave in Malaysia where Nakkeer was trapped. That is why a Tamil devotee saw Murugan's vel here. A Sarar here also says that the Murugan temple was built here only after that.
This important Batumalai Cave Murugan Temple was built in 1891. Then one had to go through a rough path to visit this Muruga. Later in 1938 three walkways with 272 steps were constructed to reach this hill temple. Apart from this, a separate railway line has also been laid. You can visit the temple at a height of 400 feet from the ground using these routes and visit Lord Muruga, Subrahmanya Swami.
At present a very large idol of Murugan has been erected in front of the paths leading to this temple, i.e. near the entrance gate, painted in a suitably glittering manner like gold. The height of this statue is 42.7 meters i.e. 140.09 feet . The work started in 2003 to build this statue was completed in 2006. In the year 2006, 2 crore 40 lakh rupees have been spent to build this statue. Most of the construction materials for this statue were brought from neighboring Thailand. After being erected as the world's largest idol of Murugan, the number of visitors to this Batumalai cave Murugan temple has increased manifold as well as the number of tourists.
Although the Malays do not worship here, they visit this temple and the huge statue of Murugan as a tourist.
It is a unique event that all the milk brought in various ways is anointed for the veal. This is not done in temples in Tamil Nadu. The pride of this temple is that milk abhishekam is held continuously day and night for three days without a break.
The Thaipusad festival is celebrated here every year in the month of Thai. Apart from Hindus, Chinese and some others take a dip in the holy river in this Thaipusa festival, and there are various rituals such as unit piercing, balkudum, kavadi, which are performed as ritual rituals in Murugan temples in Tamil Nadu. But here apart from Tamils, Chinese and other religious people also pray to Murugan and pay their respects.
