Danish artist David Herman Anton Melbye focused on maritime paintings. For most of his life, he lived in Paris, France. He was the brother of above mentioned Danish artist Vilhelm Melbye. The painter enjoyed depicting artworks of scenes of coastal Europe in the mid-19th century. This is among his most celebrated paintings depicting the lighthouse surrounded by a stormy sea with a dark sky.
