Mommy and Daddy are yelling again. I hold Mr. Bunny tight and I'm waiting for mommy to enter my room and lock the doors as usual. I can't hear mommy anymore, all I hear is glass breaking. I'm scared, I want it to stop. Maybe they're yelling because I drew on my math test. I should go and apologize, I just want it to stop. I hop off my bed, but before I can reach the door daddy rushes in. He's holding one of those bottles he always drinks from at night, except this one is broken and red. He looks worried, scared. I should try, my "sorry." Every adult says, saying sorry fixes everything.
"Daddy, I'm sorry for drawing on my math test."
He smiles but I know it's fake. He's still worried; he's still angry at me.
"Little Billy, we're going on an adventure, pack all your favorite things, because we won't come back for a while."
"What about mommy," I ask.
"She's sleeping," he said. "The adventure is for you and me alone."
I started packing, putting all my favorite things in my backpack. I started with Mr. Bunny, then a photo of mommy and daddy together. I put in my onesies and pajamas; I only wanted to wear them all day. Hopefully daddy won't be angry I didn't bring extra clothes. But he said it was an adventure, I don't think he'll be angry. I finished packing. I knocked on daddy's door. I didn't want to enter but he didn't reply. Maybe he was in trouble and he needed me to save him like last year when I was Spider-Man. I opened the door fast and pushed my chest up. I'm here to save the day… I looked around the room. All I saw was a small pile of broken glass and a lot of red. Water red.
