How Digital Art Can Save You
(When Nothing Else Can)
The first time I opened a digital drawing program, I almost wanted to cry. Not because I was overwhelmed by all the possibilities. Not because I felt inspired. But because it was so difficult. My fingers trembled over the drawing tablet, and every line I tried to create felt clumsy and wrong.
And it made me think about life. How many times have we tried to draw a line that just didn't turn out the way we envisioned it?
But here's the thing: Art, whether it's digital art or a physical painting, isn't about perfection. It's about creating. About finding a way to express everything that gathers in your chest, but for which you can't find the words.
When Art Finds You
I don't know why I decided to start with digital art. Maybe it was because I needed an escape. Maybe because I was tired of my ideas never becoming more than just that—ideas. Or maybe because one day I stumbled upon an online art store and realized that people were actually creating and selling art that way.
And suddenly it hit me: What if this could be me?
What if I could create something that was more than just an image on the screen—something that meant something?
Online Art and the Magic in What You Create
The first time I uploaded an image of my illustration to an online art website, it felt like baring my soul to the world. I had seen so many fantastic works—modern art, abstract compositions, realistic portraits—and I was convinced that my art would never measure up.
But then something happened.
A message. A stranger writing that my image hit them right in the heart. That the colors, lines, feeling—all of it—had made them pause.
And it made me realize something important:
Art isn't about being the best. It's about touching someone.
Finding Home in Art
If you've ever felt rootless, lost, or trapped between two places, then you know how important it is to have something that anchors you. For me, it became art.
Some find belonging in music. Others in words. I found mine in creating.
And maybe you will too. Maybe you'll find yourself in a random search for Norwegian art, or while browsing through large images on a website. Maybe you'll decide to start your own journey, fill a canvas, open a digital drawing program and see what happens.
And perhaps, just like me, you'll discover that art isn't just something you create.
It's something that saves you.
And who knows? Maybe one day it's your art that's for sale in an online store, ready to save someone else.
