Giuseppe Bonifati: 'After touching the sky with my finger, I'm now back on the ground, albeit only for a brief moment.'
The international artist, recently turned forty, reflects on his journey through theater, cinema, and private life, maintaining that curious gaze that has always accompanied him.

Having just crossed the threshold of 40 years, the Italian artist draws up the balance of a career that has included collaborations as an actor with Ridley Scott – for the film All the Money in the World– Michael Mann – for Ferrari– and Martin Scorsese – for the documentary series The Saints. “I maintain the freshness of the beginnings without the pressure of having to achieve results at all costs. Perhaps it’s the age when one learns to breathe instead of run. Yet I continue to move forward with curiosity and lightness: ‘Je me fous du passé,’ as Edith Piaf sang.” Giving him constant inspiration and support is Hungarian Linda Sugataghy, his wife and long-time collaborator: “With her I have found my homeland: we live a symbiotic love made of friendship, complicity, and mutual support. It is thanks to imagination and the creation of new worlds through writing and art that we experience every day the antidote to everyday banalities.”
Theater today
After more than fifteen years of activity, with 35 works performed in over 32 countries, the health of his theater is good. Bonifati recently presented the concluding chapter of the Dantesque trilogy Inferno, Purgatory and Paradise at the Planetarium of Copenhagen, in front of over 6,000 spectators: “We have demonstrated how classics can be reborn by dialoguing with the symbolic places of the city.” With Artbulance, theater becomes a movement on four wheels that will cross Europe, uniting art, care, and citizenship. Simultaneously, the Flying Theater in the spaces of Billund Airport and the direction of the musical An Ideal American confirm his vocation to experiment with ever new formats and contexts, transforming every place into a stage. “Even on the clouds!” adds Bonifati.
Future projects
Giuseppe Bonifati is also working on his debut as a screenwriter and director, undertaking the path as a filmmaker together with Linda, producer and video editor. His first fiction work, Revenge is a dish best served cold, tells the story of an Italian-Danish man convinced he is Hamlet, the prince of Denmark, who during a journey to his origins in Calabria discovers secrets that intertwine personal drama and settling of scores. “The screenplay is a work in progress,” comments Bonifati, “and shooting will not begin before 2027. In parallel, I am working on an independent documentary film in Spain, which will explore the fleeting nature of feelings and flash news. It will be shot in 2026, probably in the La Rioja region.”
The actor has also participated in the series A Taste for Murder, forthcoming in 2026 for BritBox North America, set in Capri, which narrates the events of a detective involved in crimes linked to traditional Italian cuisine, alongside Warren Brown and a large cast of English and Italian actors.
