Paris Street, Rainy Day 1877 Gustave Caillebotte
French artist Gustave Caillebotte was known for his cityscapes during the Realism movement. This is a large oil painting and among his best-known artworks. In the painting, individuals can be seen walking through the Place de Dublin at an intersection to the east of the Gare Saint-Lazare in north Paris. Today the painting can be viewed at the Art Institute of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois.
Boulevard de Capucines 1874 Claude Monet

French Impressionist artist Claude Monet created this artwork as an oil on canvas. It is a street scene of individuals walking on the popular Paris boulevard.
Paris through the Window 1913 Marc Chagall

Belarusian-French artist Marc Chagall was one of the few artists who created memorable cityscapes featuring abstract elements. He was a prominent painter during the early to mid-20th century at which time Cubism and Expressionism were the two most popular painting styles in Europe and America. This artwork is one of the more iconic works featuring the city of Paris through a window. The Eiffel Tower is prominently on display.
The Boulevard Montmartre at Night 1897 Camille Pissarro

Danish-French Impressionist artist Camille Pissarro booked a room at the Hotel de Russie in Paris, France in February 1897. The hotel is located on the corner of one of the 4 grand boulevards known as the Boulevards des Italiens and created a series of the Boulevard Montmartre paintings at different times. This particular artwork is his most famous bringing the city alive at night. It can be viewed at the National Gallery in London, England.

Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer painted this oil painting of his hometown. It is one of three known paintings of Delft done by the artist. Cityscapes done across the water were popular in the Netherlands at the time this artwork was painted. It can be viewed at the Dutch Royal Cabinet of Paintings at the Mauritshuis in The Hague, Netherlands.
Saint-Malo 1937 Arnold Lakhovsky

Ukrainian artist Arnold Lakhovsky created this artwork of French urban life. The painting portrays a French town with the Saint-Malo Cathedral seen in the distance.
Ansicht Von Brugge 1905 August Fischer

German artist August Fischer has captured a quiet scene in the town upon a canal. The single boater is under the stone bridge. The town itself can be seen in the far distance.
Stadtplatz in Nordafrika Carl Goebel

Austrian artist Carl Goebel created this artwork of a North African town in the 19th century. The buildings are set among the sand. Figures of a man, a donkey, and a dog draw attention to the painting.
Blick Auf Amsterdam August Von Siegen

German artist August Von Siegen was active with his artworks in Munich and Vienna. He was known for his urban landscapes, seascapes, and artwork with architectural features. In this painting, he has captured a view of Amsterdam, Netherlands. People can be seen with boats on the water surrounded by medieval-like structures along the coast.

American Impressionism artist Childe Hassam was known for his cityscapes. The painting is an oil on canvas. The painter has captured a snowy day in the city using quick brushstrokes and paying attention to light effects. This artwork can be viewed at the Brooklyn Museum in New York City.
Nighthawks 1942 Edward Hooper

American artist Edward Hopper was known for this famous artwork. The painting shows a man and woman and another patron sitting at a midnight café. A single waiter can be seen behind the bar. This artwork has been viewed as one of the most iconic scenes from American history.
