A Movie So Good, Nothing Else Feels Worth Watching

A Story So Beautiful, I Couldn’t Stop Smiling

By Monika KediaPublished 11 months ago 2 min read

If you asked me on any random day whether I liked watching animated films, the chances of hearing a no would be 99%. But this year, as part of my self-imposed Oscar homework, I ended up watching a few. Some films I managed to find, others I had to skip due to poor quality. But amidst all that, there was one film that had been sitting on my list since October—The Wild Robot.

It wasn’t just any film on my list. I remember exactly why I added it. I saw a post from someone who had been waiting for The Wild Robot for so long that he booked a ticket to see it in theatres. When he arrived, he was the only one there. The theatre staff told him they couldn’t run a film for a single person; they needed at least 10-15 people. But he was determined—he bought the extra tickets himself and sat there, alone, watching the movie without an intermission. His passion stuck with me. If someone could go that far just to see a film, there had to be something special about it.

And yesterday, I finally watched it.

From the very first scene, I couldn’t stop smiling. There was something magical about it—every frame was filled with aww and ohh moments. I smiled throughout the entire film, completely immersed in its world. The film was more than just beautifully crafted animation; it had a heart that made me feel like a child again. I don’t rewatch movies often. The only film I have ever watched more than five times is Pulp Fiction, but The Wild Robot has officially changed that.

It has also changed something bigger—I no longer look at animated films the same way. I’ve seen my fair share of them—Ratatouille, Inside Out (both parts), Finding Nemo, Madagascar, and more. The reason I usually avoid them is simple: they’re too emotional. I can’t recall an animated movie that didn’t bring tears to my eyes. And yet, The Wild Robot did something different. It made me feel warmth, joy, and wonder, without overwhelming sadness.

It’s rare for a film to shift my perspective, but this one did. And I know I’ll be watching it again, smiling all the way through. Today, I have been sitting, scrolling through my Hotstar and Netflix, trying to find something to watch but struggling because of the standards The Wild Robot has set.
