1. Taxi Driver

1976 ‧ Crime/Noir ‧ 1h 53m

Taxi Driver stars Robert De Niro, one of my favorite actors out there in Hollywood. The movie’s story revolves around Travis Bickle, a taxi driver. As this is a spoiler-free review, I won’t provide any story explanations.

Director Martin Scorsese — his name is enough to make you want to watch a movie directed by him — makes great films. Some of his movies are The Wolf of Wall Street, Shutter Island, and Goodfellas. The movie explores themes like rejection, loneliness, and filth in society really well. The performances are truly out of this world; all the actors acted really well. So, this is a must-watch movie.

2. Brokeback Mountain

2005 ‧ Romance/Western ‧ 2h 14m

Movie Brokeback Mountain starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger. Directed by Ang Lee, what a movie, man! You must definitely watch this; it reflects themes like love, LGBTQ+, fear of society, and confusion, which are portrayed really well. This movie made a lot of people cry, including me. So, go and watch this with tissues around you — trust me, you’ll need them!

3. The Pianist

2002 ‧ War/Drama ‧ 2h 30m

The Pianist stars Adrien Brody, an American actor who is famous for his roles in this movie and in Peaky Blinders. I love this movie, guys! The themes of loss, love, grief, and passion for one’s career are portrayed really well. Since this is a tearjerker, have some tissues around you — and maybe someone to share the sadness with!

So, watch this; you will not regret it!

4. Prisoners

2013 ‧ Thriller/Crime ‧ 2h 33m

Movie Prisoners features an amazing performance by all the actors, especially Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano. This movie is not for everyone; it’s made for strong-hearted people. It’s a must-watch for those who enjoy realistic and dark films. The way it shows how far a man can go for his family is portrayed very well. Themes like abduction, madness, love, and loss are depicted exceptionally well. So, go sit tight and watch this movie!

5. Lust for Life

1956 ‧ Drama ‧ 2h 2m

Lust for Life is based on Vincent van Gogh, a Dutch painter. The film explores themes like love, rejection, art, psychological illness, brotherhood, and familial bonds exceptionally well. The actor Kirk Douglas, as Vincent van Gogh, delivers an outstanding performance. It’s a must-watch for everyone!
