I normally don’t do product reviews, and I normally don’t buy expensive products online, however one month and a half ago I purchased myself a reMarkable 2 tablet. For some background on me, I am 27 years old and currently working full time, as well as going to school fulltime. I go to an online university, and I am studying for my bachelor’s in psychology and the school has a psychology pre-counseling track. Once I complete my bachelor’s degree, I will be going for my master’s degree in counseling, specializing in marriage and family counseling. There is a lot of reading required each week for most classes and in order to retain all that information, I take notes. I have so many notebooks filled with notes from previous classes. Then I saw an ad for an electronic notebook. I did some research on some different versions at different price ranges and looked at reviews. I don’t have loads of money, but I understand that you get what you pay for.
Now for the choice I went with, the reMarkable 2 tablet. It’s not an iPad, there’s no back light, which for me being someone that sits in front of a computer for work 10 hours a day 4 days a week and then moves over to my laptop to do schoolwork, its refreshing to have a break from the back light of a computer screen. It connects to Wi-Fi, however there’s no internet feature, which when taking notes on Microsoft Word, always distracted me.
There are special pens that you purchase as well, and it really does feel like you are writing on paper. It’s not like using a pen on the iPad. You can create different folders and put notebooks in each folder. There are templates for checklists, calendars, as well as a college ruled notebook, legal pad notepad, as well as many other templates. The pen that I have has an eraser on it, however not all of the pens they offer do. It writes in black or grey, there’s no feature for color but that doesn’t necessarily bother me. There is a feature that has different kinds of writing utensils you can choose from, there’s a calligraphy pen, a ball point pen, a mechanical pencil, a regular pencil, marker, fineliner, paintbrush and a highlighter. You can also change the stroke, there is a thin, medium, and thick feature.
Due to being connected to Wi-Fi, it enables you to download and edit or sign PDF forms. There is also a feature that you can convert your writing to text and send it via email. This is a feature I have heard that sometimes it doesn’t always read your writing, depending on your penmanship, and I haven’t yet tried it as I have slight hand tremors and so my writing isn’t always so pretty.
As I said before, this purchase was expensive. This tablet can only be purchased on the company’s website which is www.remarkable.com I have the reMarkable 2 tablet that just came out at the beginning of the year. The tablet itself is $399 and they have two options for pens, there is the marker (which doesn’t have a built-in eraser) which is $49 or the Marker Plus, which has an eraser, for $99. You can also purchase a case from the site, although I purchased mine off of Amazon and its much cheaper that way and it has protected my tablet very well.
Overall, I have been incredibly happy with my reMarkable 2 tablet and have multiple notebooks and folders with hundreds of pages of notes already and still have so much storage left on the tablet. It genuinely feels like I’m writing in a notebook and I can use it for my weekly checklists and my calendar for work and school, and even use it for notes in my meetings at work as long as I don’t put any client information in my notes. I would say if you do a lot of note taking and you are able to spend the money it is definitely worth the money to make the purchase.
