Speculations of Google releasing pixel watch have been around for almost 4 years and up till now they have not been materialized.

Kate Kozuch at tomsguide published an article a few days ago where she claimed that the watch is in the making. He backed the story with unreliable evidence, but still managed to give an impression that the folks at tomsguide know each and everything about the unreleased Google Pixel watch.

Of course one can speculate about the OS and a few features of the watch. For instance, if there is any Pixel watch ever to be released, it would support WearOS (previously known as Andriod OS) by Google.

Such a watch is expected to have all the bells and whistles of WearOS like Google Pay, Google Assistant, Google Fit and a dedicated playstore that supports thousands of third-party app.

Such a smartwatch would be a much-needed companion of latest Google Pixel Phones Like Google Pixel 5 and 4A (5G).

By the way, If you own these models, there is no need to wait on the Google Pixel Watch. Here, Smartwatches for Google Pixel Phones, we have made a genuine effort to help you find the a suitable wearable.

The inflated claim that Google has no other option but to release a smartwatch so it can catch up with rivals like Samsung and Apple in wearable technology doesn't hold water. Especially, when it has an alternative.

To understand the Google motivation, you would have to zoom out and reassess the business model of the company. Search engine is its core business, and as Peter Thiel unveiled the truth in its master stroke, 'Zero to one', it has a monopoly over search business.

Google's foray into electronic manufacturing industry was just the smokescreen to hide its monopoly over Search Engine business. To maintain that monopoly, Google is after big data rather than on a small share in a saturated consumer electronic market.

Now, take the current scenario. The company has recently finalized a huge deal of $2.1 billion to acquire Fitbit. The latter is an established wearable brand with hundreds of thousands of users across the world.

With Fitbit smartwatches at its disposal, the company doesn't has the required motivation to pour money into a separate product line. It would stick to plan to leverage user data from Fitbit Devices to consolidate its monopoly over Search Engine Business and to sharpen its algorithm as useful user data pours in.

In our opinion, Google has lost the motivation to release a dedicated Pixel watch for its smartphones. Rather, it would hedge its bets by putting meaningful resources into the new Fitbit smartwatch.

However, it would do some tweaks in software to make it highly compatible with the Google Pixel phones. Plus, the new watch is likely to enjoy the bells and whistles of a Google device.

For instance, Google Assistant has already been introduced in Fitbit Versa 3 and Fitbit Sense. Future devices would have Google pay, Spotify support and might be access to the internet.

Much remain to be seen in the near future, and like you, we have our fingers crossed.
