Selling and advertising products on eBay is a great way to expand your audience and significantly boost sales. Instead of adding items manually, it's much more convenient to create a product feed using an app that pulls existing data directly from your Shopify store. Mulwi is one such tool that lets you generate a feed in just a few clicks. Our step-by-step guide will help you quickly connect your online store to eBay, just follow the instructions.

Why is it better to use applications rather than create feeds manually?

A product feed is an XML/CSV file that contains structured information about a store’s products. It includes multiple parameters such as Title, Description, Price, Categories, Availability, and more. A feed lets you manage hundreds or even thousands of products at once — enabling advertising automation, increasing reach, and making analytics more efficient. Why using an app is the best way to create a product feed and connect your Shopify store to eBay:

  • Save time and effort: the software will automatically transfer information from your Shopify store to the feed;
  • High scalability: manually entering hundreds, thousands of items into a product feed is almost impossible, the app, on the other hand, automates this process and conducts it in seconds;
  • The risk of human errors will be reduced. For example, typos and inaccuracies when specifying categories and attributes;
  • Many applications, for example, Mulwi will help you to find the right category on third-party marketplaces + feed will be created according to the requirements and format of a particular marketplace;
  • Some applications have direct integrations with marketplaces, including eBay, this will simplify and speed up integration.

Step-by-step instructions: How to create a feed for eBay

One of the options of Mulwi's service is to create a product feed according to all the requirements of eBay. What exactly needs to be done:

  1. Download and install the official Mulwi app. You can find it on the Mulwi website or the Shopify App Store.
  2. Launch the app, go to the "Feeds" section, and then select the "Add feed" option.
  3. Choose a feed template for eBay and then click "Create". Templates for other marketplaces may not be suitable.
  4. Specify the status of the particular feed as active and fill in the basic fields: feed name, file name, maximum number of items, AMD and so on. You can also set a password if you need to.
  5. Go to the "Templates" section and check that all mandatory fields are filled in, such as Title, Description, Category, Price, and so on.

Required fields for eBay: Title, Description, SKU, Price, Condition, Availability, Image Link, Category, Brand, GTIN or UPC/EAN/ISBN.

  1. You can also set up filters for products, for example, by tags (section "Applied Filters"), as well as set additional settings – feed translation into other languages/price sources, and so on. This step is optional.
  2. To increase the conversion rate, we also recommend filling in all fields with product attributes, even if they are not required. For example, color, size, and material. Shipping information is also important for eBay. If this data is available in your Shopify store, the service will automatically retrieve it.
  3. Save your changes and download the feed in a suitable format. XML and CSV are appropriate for eBay.
  4. Check the file to make sure there are no errors and that it meets the requirements of the eBay platform. To do this, you can open the feed in the Mulwi app using the "Preview" option. A table with all the items will appear on the screen. Blank fields and errors will be highlighted in red.
  5. Manually upload the generated file to eBay. To do this, use the official tool of the marketplace - Merchant Integration Platform. Log in to your account and go to the "Feeds" tab, select the appropriate type, and upload the file.

Before uploading your file to eBay, you can run an additional check by submitting the feed to eBay’s test console. Data Feed Watch Validator/Google Feed Validator can be used for in-depth manual validation. Once the feed has been uploaded to eBay, it's also a good idea to run periodic checks as the marketplace requirements may change. It’s also important to update your feed regularly to ensure it produces accurate results, especially regarding prices and the current availability of specific models.
