đź’ Would You Still Chase Your Dreams If No One Ever Noticed?

If No One Ever Noticed?

By Brian HenPublished 7 months ago • 2 min read

Prompt:

If no one ever noticed, liked, or celebrated what you do — would you still do it?

The question sounds simple. But when I first heard it, it struck something deeper than I expected.

We live in a world wired for reaction. A world of hearts, shares, views, and claps. Every post waits for validation. Every creation hopes for recognition. But what if that never came?

Would I still write?

Would I still chase this dream?

I think back to when I was twelve. I wrote my first story in the back of a school notebook. It was about a lonely traveler who spoke to birds. I never showed it to anyone. I didn’t even think to. It wasn’t for others — it was for me.

And the feeling I had after finishing it? It stayed with me longer than any compliment I’ve ever received.

That’s when I learned: the act of doing can be more powerful than the act of being seen.

Years later, I got caught in the current of numbers. Views. Follows. Performance. Even creativity began to feel like a competition. I stopped writing for myself. I started chasing outcomes.

I began to wonder — was I creating... or just performing?

A turning point came when I met a man painting murals under a highway bridge in Dupbai. He smiled when I asked why he painted something that would wash away in the next rain.

He replied, "Because while I paint, I feel alive. That’s enough for me."

I carried his words home like a seed in my pocket.

I started writing again — not to be seen, but to feel. I didn’t share every piece. Some stayed buried in folders, never opened again. But each word I wrote stitched something back into place.

Not all things we do are meant to be witnessed.

Some are meant to remind us who we are.

So…

Would I still chase my dream if no one noticed?

Yes.

Because it’s mine.

Because creating fills a space inside me that applause never could.

Because purpose isn’t always loud — sometimes, it’s just steady.

A Question for You:

If the world stayed silent, would you keep going?

If your answer is “yes,” then maybe you’ve already made it.

I get this. I used to code for the thrill, not the views. Rediscovering that internal drive was key. Writing for the sake of it, like that first story, is special. It's about the feeling, not the validation.
