Hello. I wanted to talk again about the Vocal Media Writers Collaboration FB group. Firstly, it should have had a shorter name; I’m aware of that. Anyway, I posted a day or two ago about the group with a very technical and methodical approach. However, despite a lot of my post being that way, thanks to my years of freelancing, I wanted to talk about it in less of a “stuff-shirt” way and more of a way that is me, and much more casual.

Yes, participation in the group costs $1 per month. Yes, this is partly to give me another stream of income for my efforts. However, despite what it probably seems like to most of you, the main reason for the $1 cost is to deter the spammers, tire kickers, and scammers from dropping in just for free promotion with no intention of participating and helping other members. After all, that is the exact opposite of what the group was created for and is intended to achieve for its members.

The VMWC Facebook group was created as a way to help those of us who love to write and post on Vocal Media share our work with each other and, yes, certainly, to help us earn more money by boosting the number of reads for our work.

It will also be a place for newer writers to seek guidance and advice from more experienced writers, experienced writers to seek the fresh energy and thoughts of new writers, and a place to simply talk about the struggles and joys of writing on Vocal Media. Writing on any platform or even just for yourself, is an art as much as it is a career. The more creative energy and outpouring of hearts and minds you can gather in one place, the more powerful and astonishing the results will be.

I, myself have been a freelance writer for over 20 years. Throughout the years, I’ve done great at learning how to write in all different styles and for various reasons or purposes. I can aim a written work for a goal or purpose like it has laser focus. However, for most of my career I have missed the community aspect of being a writer. You must consider that I predate the internet by a few years. I started writing as a teenager, just as the internet was becoming a public thing. I learned how to do it and be on my own writing, and so, I continued to operate that way for far too long. Community gives writing more power and effectiveness.

Because of my experience and because I have gone years both with and without community behind my writing, I know for a fact that this group will lend strength and, yes, money to those who participate inside the group. Members read the posts you link to or find a few favorites after clicking a link to your Vocal Media profile. You earn more. You do the same for others and enjoy reading new content and discovering new writers… maybe even friends as well. They earn more. Through it all, we all grow more.

This post isn’t copywriting. I’m not trying to “sell” this to you. I am humanly asking you to join us, and trying to convey the power that this will have for all of us. If it seems like I am pouring a piece of my heart out, and laying a bit of myself out on the line here… it’s because I am. We all need the help and the community it will bring.

Honestly, though, perhaps a part of it is my own realizations and hard truth. After being a writer for over 20 years, I do now find myself wondering if I haven’t given enough back to the writing community. Perhaps, despite having mentored more than a few new writers over the years, I haven’t helped my fellow writers and upcoming writers enough. So, maybe a part of me does need this in order to give back as well. Either way, I’m committed to the group and the mutual success of everyone who joins us.

So, again, please… join us at this new group and let’s build something amazing. Let’s help each other be better at our craft, our art, and to make more money doing it.
