The Unexpected Hero

"They say the best things in life come when you least expect them..."

All her life, she had been that girl who paid attention to every detail of her life. She had a plan for everything, from her career to her relationships. But life does have its surprises, and one such surprise hit her like a ton of bricks.

It was just another Tuesday afternoon when she was returning home from work with a head full of tasks and deadlines to meet. So consumed was she in her thoughts that she almost did not see the tiny scruffy dog that had wandered into the middle of the busy road.

Cars zoomed past, honking in frustration, but the dog stood frozen, seemingly paralyzed by fear. Without thinking, she slammed on her brakes and jumped out of her car, waving her arms to stop the traffic. She scooped up the trembling dog and carried it to safety.

As she stared into its large, brown eyes, something switched inside her. There was some kind of destiny in this meeting and not just an accident.

She brought the animal home, washed it and fed it. She named him Lucky, thinking about how lucky he was to have survived the ordeal. The truth is that it was not lucky who needed saving rather than her.

The Power of Unconditional Love

Lucky was always there for her. For every early morning greeted by his wagging tail and joyous bark that couldn’t be ignored. His presence began to fill that space she never knew existed in her life at all. She began to smile more often, worry less and notice all those little things she used to overlook for ages now.

He taught her living in every moment which had been forgotten while pursuing perfection. With Lucky on board, she got acquainted with the fact that plans are not what life is about, instead it consists of creating memories over time.

The Day Her World Stop

It was on one such fateful evening while they were on their ordinary stroll in the park when Luck wobbled and fell. With fears rising inside her heart as she bear-hugged him and dashed towards nearest vet. The news after few minutes were dreadful; Luck had an inborn cardiac deformity and was doomed.

Over the subsequent weeks, everything she did aimed at ensuring that Lucky’s final moments were palatable including lavishing loads of sumptuous food items on him, taking him places he loved most via vehicle hence driving all over town together with her during the night thereby keeping him close enough. They shared a bond which no one could break, but it killed her to let go.

An Unexpected Teacher’s Life

Lucky departed quietly without any apparent planning; however, it left an unerasable scar on her heart. Nonetheless, throughout their time together Lucky was able to instill in her a deeper sense of love, kindness and fortitude.

By being unyieldingly loyal as well as affectionate to an extent which seemed superhuman sometimes Lucky indicated that the greatest things in life are those that come as surprises. Moreover he encouraged her to release herself from life’s tightening grip; allow unforeseen things happen then enjoy even the simplest pleasures that one might have.

Life’s unpredictability is sure as hell; therefore, no matter how much we plan there would be always some surprises along the way. Some people may be happy while others might be unhappy but every individual experience teaches us something. Lucky’s story teaches us that the essence of existence is love and prosperity such places where one wouldn’t have expected at all.
