The Train of Change
It’s fall, and I am on a train. Through the window, I can see people passing by, so I reflect on them.
I saw this guy looking at me as he waited for his train, and I heard;
“You could fail”
“What about your studies?”
“You stayed home today?”
“I don’t see you making any change!”
…
These are words I used to hear over and over from people, and when I self-talk.
As the train moved, old memories flowed as they were recent.
Each stop sent me deeper into memory, and each departure sent me into an overflow of thoughts
When I stepped out of the train, the flood stopped, and my usual amnesia came back.
It’s still fall, but it’s a new day
I am on the train
I see people passing by through the window
Old memories are back - I live the past once again
I think about the time I negatively self-talk
I stepped out of the train, and my usual amnesia came back
It’s another day in fall
I am on the train
I see people passing by through my window
I think of the old days, and how they ended
I stepped out of the train - I stopped thinking
It’s summer
I am on the train
Through my window, I see people passing by
I reached my destination
I stepped out of the train for the first time and didn’t look back

I love the way this captures growth as something cyclical, like each train ride takes you a little further toward peace. 🚆
