The most spoken languages in the world

There are so many languages in the world. In fact, some have not even been documented and they will never be. That’s why it’s vital to know the most spoken languages in the world so that you can learn at two or three to help you communicate with more people without limitations.

Here are some of these languages.

Mandarin Chinese

Mandarin Chinese originated in North China and it has over 1.1 billion speakers. It is the most spoken Chinese language dialect in China and Taiwan but it's still a recognized language in many other parts of the world. Mandarin Chinese is a language you may want to learn if you are planning to get into international business, politics or even travelling.

Spanish

Also known as Castilian, Spanish is a Romance language. It belongs to the Indo-European language family. Spanish originated from the Vulgar Latin during the Second Punic War. It’s spoken on the Iberian Peninsula of Europe but it’s among the top languages in the world on the rise. The language has spread over the years and today, it has about 500 million native speakers majorly in Spain and America.

Further, Spanish is one of the most studied languages in the world. People from different parts of the world are eager to study this language both for work and personal reasons. For instance, Spanish is the most studied language at all levels of the education system in the USA. So, if you've been planning to learn Spanish, you've taken the right step.

English

Another most spoken language in the world is English. That's why you'll find most scripts in public places such as museums written in English. English language originated in the United Kingdom but it's today one of the main international languages in most parts of the world. It is studied in schools and even adults who didn't get a chance to study in school are flocking to online classes just to have an understanding of this language. A good command of the English language is paramount if you want to succeed in your career be it in business, politics, office, etc. Even travelers who travel far away from their homeland will need to understand English to make communication easier.

Hindi

The Hindi language dates back to 769 AD. It was initially known as Old Hind. Even though Hindi is majorly spoken in North India, you can still find a significant number of Hindu speakers in places such as Bangladesh, Mauritius, Uganda, and Yemen among other major cities in the world.

Today, Hindi is the first language for nearly 425 million people and a second language for almost 120 million people spread across different parts of the world. Even though most national events in India are conducted in English, Hindu is still the preferred official language in India.

Japanese

Japanese is the recognized official language of Japan as the second language in the Republic of Palau. One of the things that makes this special language stand out is the fact that it’s not a tonal language like a majority of Asian languages. Tones can be pretty difficult for learners who grew up speaking another language. So lack of tones in Japanese it's a relief for many learners. However, even if Japanese is not a tonal language it's great to appreciate that every language its a special cadence and unique rhythm, and the Japanese language isn't an exemption. The easiest way to learn the Japanese language is through listening to authentic speech.

Widely recognized languages in the World

These languages are just a few examples of the most spoken languages. If you are conversant with any of these languages, then you’re guaranteed to up your game when it comes to communication. You’ll no longer be limited by your native language to communicate. This is a plus because communication is key to almost everything in the world. Hence, if you get a chance to learn any of these languages, please do.
