The Monkey with His Umbrella

My first story

By Seashell Harpspring Published 2 years ago Updated 2 years ago 1 min read

Before writing my first story I had dabbled in some poetry, trying to figure out different patterns and poem types. Using the blank book in a writing class was the first time I was told to write an entire story while coloring pictures with crayons . The Monkey with his Umbrella was a story that came to me because of seeing a Madeline episode where a monkey steals her umbrella from her in the zoo.

I started thinking about how the monkey might have been confused at first by the purpose of the umbrella. The humans seem to use it as a fashion statement right? Then why does it block the monkey from being able to get nice sunlight? He then asks a bird what to do about it because he still wants to carry it around open. The bird tells him to cut holes into the umbrella.

He does and is content, but after a while when it starts raining he sees the umbrella's true purpose and is upset that he changed it. He then goes to play with tumbling tower blocks because he believes they are for building, but is quickly shown that it is a game where the purpose of the blocks is to fall. He then goes on to tell the other animals about his mistake so that they realize that just because an item or animal doesn't have the purpose or talents exactly as they would like means to try and change it or get upset that it doesn't do exactly as you want it to.

Finding the purpose or talent that an item, animal, or person can be utilized best at is a good idea before making rash decisions or judgements. Everyone and everything deserves its chance to show why it is important in its own right.
