The first story I wrote

That I can remember at least

Now I know they said not to write about something from school. However, this piece was of my own creativity and my introduction to writing fiction. It was year 10 of school and we were tasked with writing a mystery short story for English class.

I had not really written much before, whatever was needed to pass my classes, but I had struggled with the pressure of that. So, for this assignment to been enjoyable was a first for me.

The fact that I still remember it now should be sign enough that it had an impact on me. I was quite happy with what I had written, and my teacher complimented me on it also. The feeling I got when my English teacher told me I had written a great short story was just the best. I believe it may even be what sparked the desire to be an author in me.

Maybe I can be a great writer? Maybe I can write something other people will enjoy, not just something I enjoy.

I still believe that story had been written quite well, although I have not been able to find a copy of it. I have tried to reimagine it so that I could rewrite, though it never seems to have the same magic the original did. The story was a murder mystery about a girl who was stabbed in the back by her best friend, literally.

Now given that I was 16 years old it may not have been as good as I thought it was. Whether it was or was not is irrelevant now has it sparked the passion in me.

I have written many things since that day, albeit most are either unfinished or not great. My hope is that I will one day again write something that makes someone go ‘Wow that was good, I did not see that coming’.
