It was a cold winter night and there was wonder in the air. It drew in many frosty mornings. And it was freezing in the North Pole. Many days and many nights there was wonder. But it was not the kind of wonder that you would expect. The elves were working hard trying to make Christmas list. And they were doing the best they can with short workers as some were uninspired. Many were longing for the promises that were made and not kept. And they were being overworked. And they had no inspiration, no strong leader and no real choice. Santa Claus needed to get the list down before Christmas. And the Head Elf was old and up in age and he was dying to retire but Santa needed him. And he could not deny Saint Nicholas. Santa occassionally checked in with the elves to make sure everything was going well. But there were many mistakes and many recalls, the elves just could not get it right. And he told the Head Elf to do something immediately because everyday was needed to finish the Christmas list. So the Head Elf devised a plan to convince Santa to ease up restrictions and he came up with the legend based on an old Elf's Tale. And when he got all his facts together he presented them to Santa Claus who was always intrigued with legends and fables. He said It is written long ago that there will be one who can lead the elves to better unity, lead them to better workings and he will be the inspirational leader who will inspire them and continue the legacy of long ago. So that the children of the world will never cry and will never miss Christmas. And Santa said go on. He said we must find the Elf-Maker who will be the next Head Elf to guide the workshop and finish the Christmas' list for the next century. We must go to his house and tell him of the need. We must convince him that he is chosen to be the leader of the workshop to complete his destiny otherwise it will be the fate of Christmas. And so Santa wanted to go but the Head Elf convinced him to stay and keep working on the Christmas list. And the Head Elf took choice elves to go along with him even with some tools to convince him. And so they flew in one of Santa's sled and they searched all over the Town of Ginsburg. And they almost was gonna give up hope when they found the Elf-Maker in the woods trying to chop a tree. So the elves came and helped. They used their tools to measure and chop properly. And they were dressed like old short men. The Elf-Maker thanked them and they asked him if he needed help. And he said Christmas is always here now and forever each day is Christmas. Our town celebrate Christmas everyday on Christmas Island. And the elves bade him to allow them to come. And so as a thank you he allowed them to come. And they never rode a modern car before and they were 'ooooohh' and 'ahhhhh'' all along the way. And they were asking tons and tons of quesitons. Then they helped him carry the tree for his family and the Head Elf told him that he had a surprise. So they ate and dined with the Elf-Maker and his family and they were infaturated with his children who thought the elves were magicians. So they did tricks until their bedtime and when the elves got the Elf-Maker alone. They told him behind closed doors. The Head Elf said you are him. You are the one we are looking for. You must come at once. And he said I can't just leave my family. No. The Head Elf said but what about Christmas. Your town will cease to exist. Your home will be gone. Your children. Chirstmas won't exist anymore. We can't do it alone. And he said Sorry but you got the wrong guy. And one of his children said But Dad Santa needs you. And he walked out and he thought hard and long saying I don't believe this. Are they crazy? I am not going to live in the North Pole. My house is way more comfy and I am just a normal guy. I am not the Elf-Maker. And he begin to laugh at the idea until behind him came Santa Claus in his outfit saying it is true you are the Elf-Maker and I did not believe the story myself but it's true. And if you don't I am afraid Christmas will be over. And Santa Claus desperately followed him along with the elves as they cried Think about the children the children. And he saw a star twinkle and Santa said Remember what it was like when you were a child. And he cried and agreed after saying good-bye to his family. And that's how Christmas was saved.

Wonderful story. I'll never look at Elf on a Shelf the same way again.
