Living courageously
How to tend to your inner flame

How does one live courageously? It might be showing up for your heart and soul in ways that set them on fire. It might be booking in that dance class where you know no one, to live courageously is to do things that you are uncomfortable with but do them with pride and power. When we act in a powerful way, we are telling the universe we are strong and stable and that nothing can hinder our success. We move through the world in a different kind of way when we are living courageously, opportunities open like fresh doors of change. And it’s up to us to step through them.
Or not. I’ve had many opportunities pass me by in the past because I wasn’t ready to live courageously. I was full of fear and shame and blame. My heart and soul were closed off and dying, I was letting my inner flame go out. It has been the lesson of my life to find and tend to my inner flame. Having no fire in my birth chart has set me on the path to finding my own fire throughout my life. My fire used to be anger and disappointment. Constantly allowing in negative energy into my field, constantly denying my truth. And my fire has almost gone out quite a few times.
What are some of the things I did to give energy back into my inner flame and live more courageously?
1) Spending time in nature. This has to be one of the most potent ways to tend to your heart and soul. When we are in nature, we are connected and content. Being in nature is phenomenally good for our mind and bodies, breathing with the sounds of the birds, rivers, ocean and trees. Feeling the soft grass underfoot, dipping your toes into the water, picking a flower or a leaf to keep, finding a good shell, watching the sunrise or sunset or jumping into the sea to cleanse yourself completely. If you haven’t been into nature for some time or lead a very busy life, I gently invite you to take some time in the next week dedicated to spending time in nature.
2) Meditation. This is a difficult one for me. I find it incredibly difficult to sit still and quieten my mind. I often practice meditation while I’m watching the ocean or at the beach. I find the rhythmic movements of the ocean deeply relaxing and the feeling of the wind on my skin sends me into a meditative state. Meditation is great for giving you a new outlook, building skills to manage your stress, making you more self-aware, focusing on the present, reducing negative feelings, helping you to be more creative and patient and lowering your resting heart rate.
3) Oracle has been very beneficial for me in living more courageously. In an oracle reading, you ask a question to your spirit guides to show you the way forward. Often the card is spot on for the question you asked and it can give you excellent guidance on how to best address this question or issue in your life.
4) Book into something new. It might be a dance class, art class or pottery class. Something that you haven’t done before. This will challenge your confidence and courage for sure!
5) Go on a date. Dating is a great way to tap into your inner flame and courage. It takes a lot of effort to date someone, to get to know a new person and figure out all of their intricacies and quirks. It can be an excellent confidence boost if you’re needing something to push you out of your comfort zone.
6) Have a self care day. Think face masks, foot soaks, doing your nails if that’s something that resonates with you, soft music, candles, incense. Maybe even a bath! The more we pour into ourselves, the more we can show up in our lives for the things we need to do.
7) Watch the sunrise or sunset. What better way to tend to your inner flame than to watch the great fiery globe rise or set in all of it’s grace and beauty. I love watching the colour of the ocean or sky changing and moulding itself to the position of the sun. Getting that colour therapy and sunlight on your skin is also a great source of vitamin D. Colour therapy or specifically red light therapy is associated with helping with wound healing, acne, sleep, hair loss, pain management, building collagen, skin quality, muscle recovery and inflammation.
8) Have a hot cup of tea while you journal. Journaling especially is amazing for understanding your thoughts and feelings more. The more we journal, the more we can witness and decipher our current state of being. Looking back on old journals can give you great insight into your wellbeing and seeing your progress over time. You can include little watercolour drawings or sketches if that fills your soul up. I recommend making them as colourful and interactive as possible because it’s a fun way to connect with your inner flame, sparking joy and creativity. It’s contagious!
Are you feeling called to try any of these practices in your daily life? Do you already practice some of them? Do you feel like your inner flame is simply a flicker or a roaring bonfire? Or maybe it’s just a light glow of the embers warming your soul. Whatever your current state of your inner flame, know that it can wax and wane and change over time. If you’re in need of some oxygen to get your flame going, just breathe. Always remember to breathe. Without oxygen, fire is smothered and dies. Without our breath, what would we be? Without that fresh energy entering our body and oxygenating our blood and bones and muscles and limbs, what would we be? The human body is a complex and complicated system full of elaborate workings. But it’s as simple as breathing. Can you gift yourself that today? Can you gift yourself a courageous act?
Sending aloha,
Mia
