Let Us Talk About Getting Reads.

You Won't Get The Reads You Are Looking For Overnight.

I have been a member of Vocal for some time now, and when I first started out I was getting frustrated with the low amount of reads that I was getting.

Some of my reads are still quite low today, even on top stories, though my first post on music earned really well.

As you can see, some stories since that story about music have low earnings and reads, but are slowly accumulating as they go along, and

I do share my work wherever possible.

I have a few top stories in my vocal account, and I really appreciate those. Top stories are not something I expect, I treat them as a bonus.

I also spend a lot of time reading here, but I have only just started reading and writing regularly again as I have been ill. Sometimes, taking time away can impact your earnings and stats.

I see a lot of people complain about earnings, and I will admit so have I in the past. However, my reads and my earnings are not where I'd like them to be yet, but with a little patience and effort, they are climbing slowly.

Reads do better when I share on social media. I do not always share in messages, because some of my family and friends are wary about links, because of scams on the web. I share them directly to my profile so that they can see the full link, and on a page that I run on Facebook. I also use LinkedIn

It has taken me years to get reads on my stories, although my first story earned quite fast. Maybe this is just the way the algorithm works here, I don't know.

I don't see my writing as bad because of it, I just keep going because the effort is worth it.

Someone told me that Vocal doesn't have any built-in traffic.

I'm not sure how much of this is true, because I'm no tech queen!

However, as much as I am trying to build my writing goals and career, I still find this site useful because,

Even little reads are classed as reads.

I do feel that Vocal could improve the earnings on reads so that we get a little more when the algorithm picks them up. I think if the algorithm was to pick up enough to say create at least $1 per read, people would want to read and write more here.

It's not a big problem, because I have a passion for reading and writing here anyway. As I said to someone earlier,

"Vocal should pay me to be a reader, because when I am here; I like to squeeze a lot of reading in as well as writing, and I leave comments where I can on a regular basis!"

I find many interesting reads here, but my favorite writer is Doc Sherwood

This amazing writer writes amazing stories and adventures about superheroes and other comic-style stories you won't find elsewhere.

They will make you laugh, cry, and almost burst for the toilet as you read them!

I'm not apologizing Doc, for not being able to get enough of your work!

Vocal is an amazing site, but as I learned; when it comes to reads, you get what you put into it.

It helps to not just read the stories you are subscribed to but to search out new writers too, and if you can't think of a comment to make, hearts go a long way too, and tips, where you can afford them, show appreciation for an author.

Hint: Reading and commenting on other people's work, builds up friends and new readers on your profile. If you show appreciation for the work of other writers, they often return it.

It is very easy to get carried away with writing just for reads but it doesn't work that way.

You should never start reading just to get reads, but if you make an effort to expand your reads and leave honest comments and feedback, then others will be encouraged to do the same for you.

Using Vocal in this way will increase the reads on your profile beyond just sharing them on other sites. It has the advantage of becoming known to other writers, which in turn builds strong writer bonds and friendships along the way.

It isn't about being popular or earning as much as you can (an advantage, but not the point).

Vocal is about learning as you go along, creating, and sharing.

One way to do that is by engaging with other writers on the site. Engaging being a keyword here.

You got it right. I have tried to respond to everyone I can. But to write just for reads will not work. And you seem to be doing better than me. ;)

  • Some excellent insights there, I share them on Facebook and Twitter but only tag Vocal, I have lots of stories with one or two reads, but have a good audience who guarantee me t least thirty reads a day even if I don't post.. Thank you for this
