Left alone at home for 10 days, the mother went for a walk, the brutal death of the child

Crystal Candelario is a new mother. Only 16-month-old child Xylin. Leaving him alone at home, Krystal traveled to Detroit, Michigan, and Puerto Rico for ten days. While leaving, he passed a few bottles of milk in front of the girl. But on the second day, Xylin died crying of hunger.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O'Malley on Monday (March 18) found mother Christel Candelario guilty of murdering her 16-month-old daughter Jaylene Candelario in June 2023. Christel was jailed for life. He will spend the rest of his life in prison. Krystle's neighbors say, "Punishment should be done".

Prosecutors said during the hearing that Candelario left the girl in a Pack-n-Play playpen and went for a walk.

Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Anna Faraglia showed the court video of Candelario leaving June 6 with his suitcase and returning home June 16. After ten days he returned home and saw that the girl was not moving. Candelario immediately called 911. The doctors came. They checked Jaylin and said she was dead.

An autopsy report revealed the cause of death to be dehydration and starvation. Candelario dressed Xylin in a clean dress to cover up the crime before emergency services arrived, prosecutors said. But a change of dress could not hide the horror the girl had gone through. Then the story of Candelario's brutality began to unfold.

"Xylin was found lying on a mattress covered in urine and feces," Faraglia said. Animals take better care of their babies too.'' He weighed seven pounds less than two months before his death.

How can a mother do this? The judge was also surprised. County Common Pleas Court Judge Brendan Sheehan called it the "ultimate betrayal" during the sentencing. He said, "You have to spend the rest of your life like you kept the girl captive". Candelario told the court that he suffered from depression. He also expressed regret for his actions. But the judge ultimately ordered a life sentence without parole.

After the sentencing, Prosecutor O'Malley and Cleveland Division Police Chief Dorothy Todd expressed their grief over Zelin's tragic death. Besides, he said, they will take all possible measures to punish the culprits in such incidents. Judge O'Malley called it "the unimaginable selfishness of the mother".

He said, "This is an example of what can happen when parents neglect their responsibilities". He also lamented that no severe punishment could bring back the child Xylin.
