Juba Secondary Schools Mini Competition, second edition, kicks off
The second annual Juba Secondary Schools Mini competition began on July 1, 2025, bringing together eight schools to compete in various categories, including new Music, Dance, and Drama events, all under the theme of “Mental wellness in schools, happy students.”

The second edition of the Juba Secondary Schools Mini competition kicked off on Tuesday, 1 July 2025, with eight participating schools. This year’s competition categories include Spelling Bee, Speed Challenge Quiz, Speech, Academic Debate, Music, Dance and Drama, as the last two listed items are being introduced into the contest’s experience for the first time.
Schools participating in this year’s edition are: Golden Brains Academy, Juba Diplomatic School, Bright Light Secondary School, Brilliant Academy - Juba, Elite High School - Juba, Juba Integrated High School, City High School, and Horizon Academy Secondary School.
In the first two inaugural fixtures, defending champions Golden Brains Academy hosted Bright Light Secondary School, and Juba Diplomatic Secondary School hosted Brilliant Academy on match day one.
On Thursday, 3 July 2025, Elite High School hosted City High School.
This year’s competition theme is “Mental wellness in schools, happy students.” With the anticipation of students who come together, happy to be part of this year’s competition to witness, learn and take a few things from the experience.
Emmanuel Bida is the organisation’s program manager. He told teachers through WhatsApp group chat that he was impressed by the new category, MDD. “What I witnessed today was memorable, a real act, clear storylines and messages communicated,” he said.
Bida also encourages all teams to keep engaging in such various activities, even internally within their schools.
Mr. Patrick Irra, a passionate educator, congratulated the Excellence Foundation South Sudan (EFSS) for the successful commencement of this year’s competition. He applauds the organisation for transparency and being willing to take feedback with encouragement to maintain the same spirit till the end.
He said that all judges, along with team coaches, should be organised to ensure a smooth implementation of the program and encourage all the participants to work hard.
By schedule, the competition is planned to end on Thursday, 24 July 2025, with the Grand Finale awarding of the winners.
