Is It Safe to Travel Pakistan- Skardu, Hunza, Naran–Kaghan? Full 2025 Guide
Yes, it's safe to travel to the northern areas of Pakistan — but only if you plan smart.

Roads can be tricky. Weather can flip. Flights might get canceled. But if you're ready, the experience is unforgettable. This post has everything you need to know about safety, season, places, travel styles, routes, gear, and real examples — so you don’t just travel, you enjoy it.
Best Time to Travel North
May to October is the safest and most pleasant time to visit.
If you're planning a Skardu 2025 tour or Naran Kaghan trip, June to August is peak time. Snow has melted, roads are clear, and hotels are open. But that’s also when it gets crowded.
Winter (Nov–Feb) means snow, blocked roads, and flight delays. It’s better for a winter trip to Swat or Murree only. If you're going to Skardu by air in winter, book early — flights get canceled in bad weather.
Is Skardu Safe?
Yes, Skardu is safe — but remote.
Flights from Islamabad are quick (45 mins), but often delayed due to clouds. By road, it's a 16–20 hour trip. Take breaks in Chilas or Besham.
⚠️ Important about JSR (Jaglot–Skardu Road):
This road is narrow, with sharp turns, loose gravel, and steep drop-offs. Landslides and rockfalls are common, especially after rain. Travel in daylight only and hire a local driver who knows the terrain. Avoid self-driving unless you’re highly experienced in mountain roads.

Hunza Safety Check
Hunza is one of the safest tourist spots in Pakistan.
People are welcoming, and crime is rare. The Karakoram Highway is in good shape, but landslides happen during rains.
Hunza tour plans often include Altit, Baltit Fort, and Attabad Lake. If you're a photographer, go for Passu Cones or Rakaposhi Base Camp.

Naran-Kaghan: What to Know
Naran and Kaghan are accessible from June to September.
Babusar Top opens in June and closes mid-October due to snow. Always check road conditions.
Family tours to Naran Kaghan include Lulusar Lake, Saif-ul-Malook, and rafting in Kunhar River.
Hotels in Kaghan range from Rs. 5000 guesthouses to Rs. 12,000+ resorts.
Planning a road trip to Khunjerab? Keep your ID. Police checkposts are common.

Fairy Meadows and Adventure Spots
Fairy Meadows is beautiful but not for weak hearts.
The last jeep ride is rocky and steep. Walk from Tattu village (2–3 hours hike). Only go in summer. Book jeeps early — Jeep charges Fairy Meadows are PKR 7,000–9,000 round-trip.
Camping in Fairy Meadows is magical, especially during full moon.

Packing Tips
Layered clothes (even in summer it gets cold)
Sunblock, sunglasses, and lip balm
Power bank and torch
First aid kit: motion sickness, altitude pills
Download Google Maps offline
Best SIMs: Zong (Hunza, Naran); Telenor/Scom (Skardu)
