I Am An Author
The story of a boy who became an author
Hey wassup. Stop what you’re doing and lend me your eyes for a few minutes so I can tell you the story a little boy who grew up to be an author. Now this kid’s name is Joe and he’s from North Carolina. Growing up like he did, education was very important to both of his parents. His parents didn’t play about school and trust me, he learned that the hard way.
Now growing up Joe was probably the biggest movie buff you could’ve known. He didn’t just watch movies, he loved em’ so much that he would watch the opening and end credits every time they came on and went off just so he could learn who the cast and crew were behind the movie he was watching. Wanna know the funny twist? Joe liked reading the credits on movies and tv shows, but in general he actually didn’t like to read. The reason who is because every week his mother who was a big reader made him and his sister read in front of the family every night before bed.
Interestingly enough, Joe loved a lot of movies and tv shows based off books and even liked reading the books off which they were based. He just didn’t like the act of reading itself because he thought it was boring, plus his mother always made him and his big sister read in front of the entire family every night. The way he saw it was reading is a labor, not a luxury.
It wasn’t until he got older and started doing better in school that he started to appreciate the fundamentals of reading. Joe also looked back on how much of a favor his mother did him by making him a great writer because of how much reading she had him doing. Furthermore Joe learned to appreciate reading more from an entertainment perspective due to so many movies he loved being based off stories from authors like Stephen King, Roald Dahl, JK Rowling, Louis Sachar and Donald Goins. In a big way he learned that the key to many of the greatest stories he loved was being a great author.
After Joe’s mom died when he was 17 years old he started taking life more serious than ever before. He made an effort to be a better student in school and he was successful in that regard. He even made it to college which he absolutely loathed as a kid and it was there that he discovered how great of a writer he truly was. After he earned his associates degree in arts he made up his mind that he was going to be an established writer. When he transferred to the University of North Carolina in Greensboro he majored in media studies where he took screenwriting and spent a whole semester writing a screenplay titled “Biscuits and Blood” which was based off his experiences at his then job working at the restaurant Bojangles.
Four years ago Joe discovered Vocal media.com, a platform that allowed him to express himself as a writer and it was here that he decided he was gonna start writing literature among many other things. Earlier this afternoon having been through so much, Joe decided he was gonna write and publish a book of poetry before the year was over and now he has achieved his goal.
Who would’ve ever guessed that the kid who hated reading and writing would grow up to have a passion for writing and would eventually become an author? I certainly didn’t and it’s crazy to think about when you consider that kid is actually me. Yeah, I hated reading as a kid, but learned to appreciate it in my adulthood thanks to my mother. Two days ago my first book ever was published, it means that I am no longer just a writer. My name is Joe…and I am an author.

My first book “Melanin Memoirs” is available now on Amazon Kindle.
