Holidays, both large and small, bring their own kind of baggage-boxes with them. I didn't realize before this week how a holiday, be it religious, national, or personal; they seem to stir my heart to write.

This is a gathering of that writing. If some of these speak to you, or if they might begin a conversation or provide solace to others, feel free to share.

Ribbons!

No Need for Ribbons is a brief poem that traces a lifetime of longing.

Gramma's Ribbon Box was a Runner Up in the 2024 Reflections in Verse Challenge

Holiday Humor

The DI-Why Sequel includes a link to part 1. I am not afraid to laugh at myself.

I Would Starve is This Was my Career isn't (shocker!) about Vocal, but my imagined other writing job.

When We Take Time to Think

Midnight Prayer is a quiet self-exam

Do You Hear What I Hear is one of my 'Jessica stories'. (Resemblances to the author in these stores will not be confirmed.)

Listen! comes to mind as a nice partner for the poem above.

Cold Coffee Morning is another 'Jessica story' (Perhaps Jessica should cut down on the caffeine? Scribbling a note to myself...)

Holiday Dread is Comin' to Town because not everything is jolly

Holiday History Pieces

It's a Good Friday was written because some 'holidays' have a varied history.

The 12 Days of Christmas Controversy was entertaining to research. What do you think is correct?

Imbolc, St Brigid, Lupercalia, Candlemas... and Groundhog's Day? This was a piece where the research was so much fun.

Wedding and Anniversary

Love from A-Z is about a personal milestone day seen looking back. I have a few wedding pieces, and this abecedarian poem was tricky to compose.

As Long as We Both Shall Live was written to honor a couple whose wedding I officiated.

A few more

A Bookseller's Week Before Christmas will resonate with many people that have worked retail.

Not Enough Chairs at the Table was written for Thanksgiving, but unfortunately could be any holiday gathering.

~*~*~*~*

I have others on January Resolutions, Halloween Treat Suggestions for busy parents, Summer July 4th memories, Mother's Day, birthdays,... heck; I've written now 505 (as of today) pieces, poems, stories, and articles on the Vocal platform.

Please let me know in the comments

  • which holiday piece was best?
  • what holiday should I take on next?
