Based on Hitler’s Daughter – The play

Dad? I have a question.

(beat)

Why did Hitler try to kill all the Jews? Was he holding a grudge against them?

(beat)

Oh no, there is nothing wrong at school. We’re simply discussing how Hitler’s daughter would have grown up.

(beat)

You know how everyone says that kids are influenced by their parents. But Hitler’s daughter could have been different than him, probably. No one knows.

(beat)

Well, don’t get me wrong. If you were some sort of psychopath killer, what do think I should do?

(beat)

Well, I think if you were one, maybe I would not become like you. Though, I might try to help you out. Dad, tell me, what would you do if I were a notorious serial killer?

(beat)

Sure, I appreciate your thoughts for me. But would you ever turn me in to the police?

(beat)

Would you come visit me when I'm behind the bars?

(beat)

Well thanks dad. Anyway, I would never end up in such a position, cause you’ve given me your time and been a role model in my life.

(beat)

But, what do you think Hitler’s child would be like, a great citizen or a copy of the father?
