Here are 5 fun facts about the Nürburgring:
The Nürburgring's storied history and legendary status in the motorsport world ensure that there's always something new to learn about this iconic track.

The Green Hell: The Nürburgring Nordschleife (North Loop) is often referred to as "The Green Hell" ("Grüne Hölle" in German) due to its challenging layout and the forested surroundings. This nickname was popularized by three-time F1 World Champion Sir Jackie Stewart.
A Mighty Length: The original Nürburgring was a combination of the Nordschleife and the Südschleife (South Loop), which together spanned over 28 kilometers. Today, the Nordschleife itself is over 20 kilometers long with 154 turns.
A Public Road: Technically, the Nürburgring is a one-way public toll road without a speed limit, except on event days or during races. This means that anyone with a road-legal vehicle can drive there during designated times, known as "tourist drives."
A Testing Ground: Due to its challenging layout, the Nürburgring is a favorite testing ground for car manufacturers. Many brands test and develop their cars here, aiming to set lap records and boast about their car's performance.
F1's Long Absence: Though the Nürburgring is iconic, it didn't host a Formula 1 race for a long time. After Niki Lauda's near-fatal crash in 1976, F1 did not race on the Nordschleife because of safety concerns. It wasn't until the 1980s that the European Grand Prix returned to a much-modified GP-Strecke circuit at the Nürburgring.
Bonus Fact: Ghostly Tales: Local legends and some racers have claimed the Nürburgring is haunted, primarily by a ghostly woman in white who is said to appear in the early morning hours or during fog. As the story goes, she might even try to hitch a ride with unsuspecting drivers!
