Friends, enemies, and those still under review, I invite you to take a walk with me down the trail revealed by today's idea. Simply, I wish to put it into the world, acknowledging that it is not the kind of story I am presently equipped to tell.

What if we had a Grimm's Anatomy?

Now, I've never watched Grey's Anatomy, not one episode to my knowledge. I am aware that some girls in high school were obsessed with objectifying some guy name Steamy, but that's about it. So, please remember that I'm not talking about a fantastical version of grey's anatomy, but more so a fantastical hospital show.

In the urban-fantasy world that I have envisioned, super natural nonsense is prevalent yet remains hidden. Some times it seems that the only people you run into are secretly beaver people. This joke brought to you by the TV show Grimm, which had a profound impact on my love of certain kinds of fantasy/horror.

But in this hospital, there is a secret wing hidden from mortal eyes. One that more closely resembles a converted cathedral than a purpose-built hospital. Here they treat monsters.

There are times in fiction when certain curses and fates can be averted if certain treatments are administered quickly. The lycanthropy cure from Hugh Jackman's Van Helsing, cutting off a bitten limb in most zombie media, and any number of magical spirit of friendship cures.

Using that as a foundation, this show could feature primarily wizards (meaning they have specialized and dedicated training like doctors) handling the magical medical needs of the city. I would lean into the standard urban-fantasy trope of normal people simply not being able to see magical things unless directly and intentionally exposed.

Like, if I were walking around late at night and a stray werewolf got their jaws on me, I would be taken directly out of "stop this guy from bleeding out" surgery and be trundled into "silver and Gregorian chants" suite.

Vampires could bring their human lovers in after a mistake in... I'll let the fnafic writers fill that in for now. Other people could be found caught by random, wandering vampires and brought in by magical paramedics.

We could have political worldbuilding around the integration of supernatural and regular world. Barriers would have to be crossed with care in the event of a magical cure going wrong and needing more traditional medical support or a curse accidentally going off in the Mundane Wing.

Ghosts from famously haunted places could be dispelled by people from this hospital, or the hunters could be brought in for treatment of exterminator-like magic injuries.

As I said, this idea of mine is only quasi-modo. It's not even in such a wretched state as that. But still, it now exists in more tangible a way than before.

This sounds like a show that I would watch. The idea that most parts of the world have contact with. It is what I see in our current space with the various sub-culture I see but don’t really interact with or have knowledge of.

I would adore a story like this!! Are you going to write it in full?

  • As someone who has watched Grey's Anatomy, I would hope this idea of a show wouldn't become just a fantastical version of it. There are some parts of Grey's Anatomy I do like (some people story arcs, a couple of relationships, the way they touch on certain touchy topics, etc), but sometimes it referred to as the show where everyone sleeps with one another, resulting in some personally undesirable drama.

  • I've never watched Greys Anatomy either and I don't know Steamy, lol. This sounds like a combo of Hotel Transylvania and St. Mungo's Hospital from Harry Potter. Such a cool idea!

  • Ooh what a concept, it didn't go where I expected, some great ideas

I'd read this one!! But perhaps it's worth mentioning a few things about Grey's Anatomy... First off, it's MC Steamy. lol Second, the show was basically a drama filled box of hamsters, meaning a lot of extracurricular happened. Not so much medicine. Now, still love this idea of yours but maybe marketing it as Greys Anatomy esc isn't the play you wanna make. Or maybe it is?? 😅
