Day 10: "When" Timed Writings
Six in the morning, First snowfall, and Easter Sunday.
From Pat Pattison’s book “SONG-WRITING WITHOUT BOUNDARIES” I am following the outline as presented for timed writing. I ordered the book and started this challenge.
The picture above is for the first prompt listed.
Today is more of “When” writing. I have done Who, What, and other When writing in previous days. It is good to make small changes to keep from getting bored!
The prompt “When” is being timed and the idea is to include as many of these as I can; sight, sound, taste, touch, smell, body, motion!
Remember that the timer can go off in the middle of a sentence, or word. Please complete it the best you can using your thoughts! Thank you.
This is day ten prompts:
Timed for 5 minutes: Six in the morning.
Waking most mornings before 6:00 a.m. if my life today. It used to be 8 hours pretty much all of the time and it has shifted to 7 hours now most mornings. So if I get to bed by 10:00, I wake around 5:15, or 5:30. Yes, it doesn't take long once I hit the pillow!
No more sleeping for eight hours anymore. I blame some of it on my bladder not lasting the whole night long. So then I am more apt to not get back to sleep as easily as when I fall asleep at night.
Morning is my favorite part of the day though. I have always been a morning person. I will get up and go out when the weather is nice. Say my prayers, offering up for those who are suffering.
Mornings is my time to type and read! Especially when it is still dark in the morning. I love to read. I started reading for a read which I mostly do in the mornings. I have started doing more challenges and prompts as after having written 500 or so stories it isn't automatic to write about this...
Timed for 10 minutes: First snowfall.
The first snowfall every year is so beautiful. The large flakes, the feel of them, and the flakes landing on my face and head are so welcome.
The grandbabies' excitement when they see and play with snow is always fun for me. Their gleeful sounds, how they will attempt to eat the snow. How they have no trouble as they get older making a snow angel and snowmen or snowwomen.
This winter we had more than one first snowfall. We thought our snow was over as it was all melted and then we had another first snowfall, that didn't last and then one that did last. It is almost gone now. In April it never stays and we know that.
As a kid, I loved having enough snow to play snowsnake, to take the car hood down the hill with cousins. That was so much fun. We made ice cream from the snow. It was delicious.
Then with snow on the ground, we heard trickster stories. Nanaboozhoo stories. I tell them now when there is snow on the ground. Lessons, values, and more. I am not a good storyteller. I like the ones that put acting into the stories.
A friend was telling stories and he is a great storyteller. Then I listened to my cousin and it was mild until all of a sudden he was flat on his back on the floor. He's a college professor. Wow. That was a fun story. Could I do that? No. Probably not. Even not when I was younger.
There seem to be more hot dishes or casseroles if you are not from this state and more soups. I love wild rice and hominy soup and they seem to go right along with the first snowfall.
The first snowfall is something I look forward to every year. I couldn't be a snowbird. I have lots of friends who start aching with the weather and find it necessary to go south in the winter. I hope it is never something I need to do.
Timed for 90 seconds: Easter Sunday.
The sight of bunny rabbits is so cute at Easter, and the egg coloring, and putting candy and money in plastic eggs for Easter Sunday is something that I had witnessed for many years and participated in for some of those years.
This year it was with my nine and ten-year-old grandchildren. They were told this year that they are in on the biggest secret ever. They are not allowed to tell their younger nieces and nephew or anyone that they...

I'm a morning person too! I never knew what hominy is, until now. Oooo, I wonder what's the secret hehehehe
The biggest secret is not to tell the little ones that the Easter bunny is make believe, but I liked all the stories especially the first snowfall and I wish I was back North. I love snow.
Wonderful life stories!!! Loved them!!!💕❤️❤️
What great fun this must have been to write these! I agree with Rick, what is the big secret!
I love it. I enjoyed reading all three prompts. But you left me hanging at the end here. I want to know what the biggest secret is!
