But Ralf I need more on Character creation , well Blah Blah Blah! Part 2

So the D&D character creation helps out and you can get really in depth with it. But your saying

But Ralf that’s all good and everything but how do I get deeper.

Ah my young Padawan let’s dive in deeper.

Remember when I said Vampire the Masquerade also helped me with my writing well in that game you make a character transformed to a vampire.

You have to choose from different clans and each clan makes your character different. For example if you choose toreador then your vampire is either very beautiful or in the arts or both. So in creating the character you have to keep this in mind. Each clan makes you have to take that into consideration on who your character is and why they were picked by that clan. All this makes for deeper character creation and deeper story.

So let’s dive in…

You are a writer your stories touch people deeply at a networking event a beautiful woman comes up to you and wants to hear all about your work. You pass the night away talking about writing and poetry and the intricacies of life in general. Out of all the conversations you ever had you’ve never experience such an enlightening captivating conversation. Its as if the heavens have opened up and given you a glimpse of paradise. You don’t even remember the night ending. You wake up in a strange bed in a luxurious room that does not look familiar.

A butler knocks on the door and enters. He smiles at you and says

Good evening sir it is great to see you awake. I know you have many questions and the madam has assigned me to answer them all. First, I need to tell you that you are no longer amongst the living, you are Kindred or as you may know better a vampire.

So in this we have created a writer character one that throws himself completely into his writing. He may even be obsessive about it and constantly seeks that intellectual high. Yet through it all the beauty of his thoughts are what shine through in his musings.

So this is all important because Toreadors seek beauty they are attracted to it. Just like his new master was attracted to his words his mind.

The other clams would have had us create different types of characters for their specific needs on what they look for.

Even Caitiff which is a clanless vampire asks us to build a character that would find themselves in their situation. The game itself has us in a constant battle with the beast within and how or if we can overcome it or succumb to it. As always the heroes Journey leads to either becoming the hero we can be or turning onto the villain that lies within.

As you can see much deeper character creation. Not saying that you can’t do this with D&D or that D&D does not ask you the same. But VtM forces us to think even more about our character.

And in the end it’s what we should do as writers really think about our characters. Make them into full beings with complexities and aspects of life.

Vampire asked me to go above and beyond what I was already doing. Especially when I took over our posting Vampire group on Yahoo groups. (Yeah I’m aging myself but I don’t care 😊)

I loved the rich lore of Vampire the Masquerade helping me play in this sandbox and craft a character and a story that worked in this universe. This in turn helped me to craft my version of the game in Omega City. Where I took all the rules and played with them till I got my story and the game I wanted to do. So I went from playing in someone else’s sandbox to crafting and tweaking it to be my version of their sandbox. In the end this opened me to start crafting and crating the worlds that were always in this cranium of mine. Releasing it upon the world … mwa ha ha ha … ahem 😊

I must say that roleplay helps in so many ways especially being creative. For creating characters learning story and understanding dialogue. Roleplay can be an amazing tool weather for acting writing or mental health as long as you are in a safe and nurturing creative gaming environment.
