My First Vocal Challenge

Happy New Year!

We've all taken another trip around the sun and before us is a brand new year for all those goals, dreams, and checklists we weren't able to manage in 2023.

Last year I set many goals for myself, some arguably too high and many derailed by that pesky little thing that often gets in the way of the best plans.

Life.

But this is a new year! A time for new goals, new dreams, and new checklists!

My desk has never been cleaner.

My Goals As A Vocal Creator

I joined Vocal in January 2022, as part of that year's New Year's resolutions to share articles and grow a community. In a way, I both succeeded and failed. While I found a wonderful community, I didn't take part in it much and my article writing was sporadic at the best of times and obsessive at the worst.

In 2023 I had the same goal and the same results.

Well, you know what they say about insanity right?

In 2024, however, I have even bigger and better goals.

To be a part of the community.

In years past I have been just throwing my words out there, responding to the wonderfully supportive comments I receive, and then I move on to the next post.

In all my time as a Vocal member, this is the first challenge I have taken part in and I am ashamed of that fact.

Not this year!

Instead of just posting I'm going to read, comment, subscribe, like I never have before! If there's a challenge, I'm going to submit to it!

My overall goal in life as well as Vocal is to grow a community of novel writers who support each other on their journeys from when they first get that idea for their novel, through all of the writing ups and downs, the editing, and even past their publication.

I want to build a community that will be the first in line for each other when it comes to their novel's release day.

The articles I post are ones filled with writing advice I learned when I received my Bachelor's Degree in Creative Writing and advice I am still learning as I complete my MFA in Creative Writing. I know these programs are unattainable for most (and a waste of time and money according to my mother) but the skills I learn I can pass on to others to help them on their own writing journey to aid them every step of the way.

I can think of no other goal worth dedicating my year to.

Not only do I have a goal-- I have a plan!

I'm going to continue with my daily posting, bringing as much helpful advice as I can to the other writers on Vocal who may need a little help with their novels, and instead of just hitting submit and moving on to the next daily task, I'm going to read. I'm going to discover a new member of Vocal daily and read through their recent work, subscribing, commenting, liking, and providing feedback.

Not only do I have a plan! I also have a checklist, the first of the year now posted front and center on my desk as a reminder.

This challenge has been a wonderful opportunity for me to sit down and think about all that I want to accomplish this year and I can think of nothing better than becoming a part of the community and helping it grow.

Happy New Year everyone!

May all of your hopes, dreams, wishes, and goals come true this year.

With love,

B.K. xo xo

This is great! :) I also have a goal of submitting to all of the vocal challenges this year (as well as the oh-so-classic goal of "finish my novel this year" (or at least make as much progress as I can!)). And it's so nice that you have a goal of reading and giving feedback to a new vocal creator every day this year--very generous! <3
