Porsche has officially announced the world premiere of its new Panamera, which is based on the newly developed MSB modular body platform of the Volkswagen Group, with most of the body structure made of aluminum. The new Panamera will be equipped with new V6 and V8 twin-turbo engines, in addition to comprehensive upgrades for the exterior and interior design. It is reported that the new Panamera will also meet with the public at the Paris Motor Show, which opens in October.

From the overall perspective, the overall contour of the body of the new Porsche Panamera has not changed much, though some detailed adjustments to make it really look flatter than the previous generation. The main adjustments are focused on the headlights and front grille, and the visual sportiness is improved after incorporating more straight lines. In addition, the new Panamera is also equipped with new four-point LED daytime running lights in two versions for consumers to choose from.

The horizontal three-dimensional LED taillights have become a common design element of the new Porsche models. Like the front end, the rear end also looks flatter, with the height of the rear windscreen reduced by 20 mm and the C-pillar and rear end slimmer.

However, in terms of dimensions, it is difficult to notice a significant change visually. The body dimensions of the new Panamera are 5049/1937/1423 mm in length, width and height, 34 mm, 6 mm and 5 mm higher than the old model, and the wheelbase is lengthened from 2920 mm to 2950 mm in the current model, an increase of 30 mm, which will improve the legroom for the rear passengers and lower the height of the rear of the passenger compartment (20 mm reduction). At the same time, the volume of the trunk has been increased to 495 liters (maximum 1304 liters), which is 50 liters larger compared to the current model. These two changes will certainly be welcomed by Panamera customers.

The interior of the new Panamera is completely new, with the most significant feature being the extensive use of touch buttons. The new car is equipped with a 12.3-inch center LCD touchscreen of the new generation Porsche Communication Management (PCM), which allows the driver and front passenger to operate the display separately. Its functions include online navigation, Porsche Connect Online, and the integration of smartphones via Apple Car Play.

In addition to this, LCD gauges are also present on the new model. In tribute to the 1955 Porsche 356A, the tachometer remains in analog form and is located in the center of the combination gauges. The LCD screens on both sides are displayed as two gauges respectively, and the design elements of Porsche's 5 gauges are retained.

In addition, the new Panamera is equipped with the latest style of the three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with an intuitive knob on the steering wheel, which can be used to adjust the driving modes "Normal", "Sport", "Sport Plus", "Sport" and "Sport". The steering wheel is equipped with an intuitive knob that can be used to adjust the driving modes "Normal", "Sport", "Sport Plus" or "Individual". The new Panamera will also reportedly be available with a new electro-mechanical steering system and enhanced Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC Sport) as an option.

The new Panamera has replaced all the physical buttons with touch keys, which look much neater and improve the sense of class, but the practicality of the touch panel is yet to be tested. The rear row is also controlled by touchpad keys. It is reported that the new Panamera will also provide a panoramic tilting sunroof, massage seats, ambient lighting and Burmester high-end stereo audio system, and other configurations for consumers to choose from.

As for the powertrain, the new Panamera 4S will be equipped with a 2.9T V6 twin-turbo engine with a maximum output of 440 hp and peak torque of 550 NM. Officially, the new Panamera 4S can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in just 4.4 seconds (4.2 seconds with the Sport Chrono package) and reach a top speed of 289km/h.

The new Panamera Turbo will be powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0T V8 engine with a maximum output of 550 hp and 770 NM of peak torque. Officially, the car accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds; with the Sport Chrono package, the 100km acceleration time can be shortened to 3.6 seconds and the top speed can reach 306km/h. In addition, the 4.0T V8 engine can be temporarily adjusted from 8 cylinders to 4-cylinder mode when the system is running under partial load.

The transmission system, matched with the two engines is a new 8-speed PDK dual clutch transmission, the new gearbox's internal friction compared to the old gearbox was reduced by 28%.

Model History.

The current Porsche Panamera is the first generation model and has been in production for seven years, starting in 2009. The four-door, four-seater design is aimed at a wider market and is more suitable for most consumers in terms of practicality.

Competitors.

Although it is also a large car, it is not positioned in the same way as the three traditional large cars, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and Audi A8. Porsche's new Panamera is more for individual users, which means that owners mostly drive themselves and do not hire drivers. From this positioning, it competes with the Maserati CEO and Jaguar XJ, all three of which are luxury brands and designed for self-drivers with a sporty bias. The new Panamera may not be exaggerated compared to its competitors, but the driving experience is still superior and the sporting genes are pure.

Full Summary.

The fully upgraded Porsche Panamera remains strong in terms of competitiveness. Although the design of the exterior is not a radical breakthrough, the little changes are enough to be an effective seasoning. China is a very important market for Porsche, and many consumers have a demand for large luxury cars, and sales in China are growing year by year.
