World premiere of the new generation Volvo S60

Volvo has officially unveiled the new generation Volvo S60 in the U.S. The new car, a luxury midsize car built by Volvo, will have the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Audi A4 as its main competitors. The future of the car will be the first to go into production at the end of 2018 at the Charleston, South Carolina plant in the U.S. The car will also be the first Volvo model that does not offer a diesel engine.

New car introduction.

The new generation Volvo S60 is based on the SPA architecture. Although it can be said that the relationship with the new generation Volvo V60 is that of a sedan and a station wagon, its trim looks sporty and its front looks the same as that of the V60.

The side of the car, the new generation of Volvo S60 overall lines show a very sporty design style, including a longer front overhang design, so that the new car presents the same visual effect as the longitudinal rear-drive layout sedan (in fact, the SPA architecture for transverse front-drive layout), while the bulging double waistline and rapid decline of the roof line, compared to the old model more power and competence.

Like the sedan version of the V60, the new generation S60 does not have much change to the interior design, the mature Scandinavian style has become the standard for Volvo's models, using wood grain and leather for large area wrapping, the center 9-inch LCD and full LCD instrument panel is still standard. The new car also has everything like three-drive air conditioning, a panoramic sunroof, and driver assistance systems.

Power, the new generation S60 will be equipped with SPA architecture among the T5/T6 AWD/T8 plug-in hybrid, including three gasoline power models, of which, the T8 plug-in hybrid version equipped with the 2.0T dual-charged engine maximum power of 313 horsepower, rear motor maximum power of 89 horsepower, plug-in hybrid powertrain integrated maximum power of 400 horsepower.

In terms of transmission, it will be matched with an 8-speed automatic transmission and an optional four-wheel drive system. It is worth noting that the car will be the first Volvo in the world not to offer a diesel engine.

It is worth mentioning that the new generation Volvo S60 will be available in a T8 Polestar Engineered version, which can be seen as a performance version of the S60, above the Volvo R-Design version. The new grille and rear end add the Polestar LOGO, in addition to a more sporty appearance, wheels, the car's suspension system, braking system, and transmission logic have Polestar completed development, power, the car will be equipped with a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 2.0T twin-charged four-cylinder engine and electric motor, with a combined maximum power of 415 hp and peak torque of 670 NM. The transmission will still be matched with 8-speed automatic transmission.

Competitors.

The S60, a luxury midsize car built by Volvo, will face many challenges from its rivals in the market. The most direct ones are BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Audi A4, in addition to the likes of Jaguar XE, Infiniti Q50, Lexus IS, Alfa Romeo Giuliani, etc. will be its main competitors. The S60 Polestar Engineered version is aimed at BMW 340i, AMG C 43, Audi S4, and other performance cars.
