Top Mods and Accessories to Consider for a Perfect UTV Getaway this Summer

So You Don't End Up in A Pickle No Matter Where You Go

By Rad.PartsPublished 5 years ago 4 min read

Ideally, we could all hop on our UTVs, ride at sunrise to our chosen destination, enjoy endless fun and thrills out there in the wilderness, and then return home at night with our hearts pumping and our heads clear. But, unfortunately, things happen differently. First, UTVs are not street legal, so you need to strap them onto your trailer/truck to make it to your riding destination. Secondly, most UTV trails are so vast and beautiful that one day is not enough to explore and enjoy them.

For this reason, UTV lovers make an entire vacation out of it, taking along their camping gear or booking lodging in the towns along the trail. But packing for a week out there in the great outdoors means more than tents, supplies, and clothes. You also need to pack your UTVs’ bags, and this is what we are going to explore today!

UTV Mods to Consider Before You Go on Vacation

It is not likely that you are going to take your factory-issued UTV out for an off-road adventure. All side-by-side owners modify their vehicles for more stability, safety, comfort, performance, etc. If you want your SxS to take you where no vehicle has taken you before, across mud, rocks, forest beds, gravel, and other dangerous terrains, you need to prep it up before you consider leaving the house.

One of the first additions to your UTV should be side and rear mirrors, followed by harnesses instead of standard seat belts, reliable tires for the terrain you want to conquer, clutch kits, batteries, and much more. UTV buffs recommend you visit Rad Parts for SxS parts and accessories before you challenge your riding skills on the Poison Spider Mesa trail in Utah or the Aroostook Valley Trail in Maine.

Some riders also mod their UTVs by adding roll cages, bumpers, new exhaust systems, dust particle separators, etc., when they want to engage in thrilling outdoor adventures or prepare for UTV competitions. However, we will only evade for a couple of days, so we won’t talk about tuning your vehicle’s chassis. So let’s pack light and wise!

Top UTV Parts and Accessories You Need to Take on Your Vacation

The list might be a bit lengthy, but UTVs are sizable enough to host you, your passengers, the vacation luggage, and some well-chosen parts and accessories. So let’s see what you should keep in your vehicle at all times, whether you plan a weekend getaway or a week’s worth vacation!

Repair Tools and Kits

UTVs don’t usually break easily, but if you choose challenging areas for your vacation, a toolbox and some repair kits will get you out of almost any mess.

● Tire repair kit. Sharp rocks and branches can puncture your tires, so you need an easy solution to fix such inevitable accidents.

● Air compressor. A flat tire is a common occurrence in UTV riding. However, you should have one for more than just fixing a flat. You can use the compressor to deflate your tires a little, so they perform better on specific terrains.

● A wrench set. You don’t have to carry the entire hardware store with you on holidays. Instead, get a basic but reliable wrench set (with an adjustable wrench to boot) to fix or adjust your UTV along the way.

● Screwdrivers. Get a screwdriver set containing a few flatheads and a few Phillips-head screwdrivers suitable for your UTV, and you’re good to go. Throw in an Allen wrench for good measure, too.

● Radiator leak stop kit. One of the biggest problems you could encounter on the trail is a rock or a pointy branch puncturing your radiator. Such an accident can stop you dead in the tracks with nothing else to do but waiting for someone to tow you out of there. A radiator leak stop kit might save you from a world of trouble.

Recovery Tools

Some passionate UTV riders say that you did not have enough fun if you didn’t use your recovery tools while you were out there in the wild. Nevertheless, recovery accessories are a must-have whether you prepare a trip for two days or two weeks.

● Winch. If you get in a pickle and chances are you will, a winch will save you from remaining stranded in the middle of nowhere. Make sure you get one with a rating of least three times the weight of your vehicle.

● Tow straps and D-ring shackles. You may need towing, or you may need to pull someone else out of the pickle, so a couple of tow straps with their complementary D-ring shackles can help you turn a misfortune on the trail into a successful riding day.

● A multi-purpose handle-all tool kit. Such kits contain full ax heads, shovel heads, sled hammerheads, pickaxe heads, telescopic handles, retainer clips, etc. Such a tool kit is crucial when you need to shovel your UTV out of a mess or enlarge the trail.

Safety Gear

Last on our list of basic accessories and parts to take on the trip (but not last on your priority list) are safety accessories, clothes, gear, etc. If you rode a UTV before, you know you need them as much as you need a spare tire.

● Helmet. On some trails, it is mandatory, but even if it’s not, you should still wear a certified one at all times.

● Goggles. Dust, vegetal debris, insects, etc., can harm you badly if you ride in the wilderness without goggles. Wear a pair if you didn’t choose a biker-style full-face helmet.

● Gloves and boots. Protect your hands and feet from riding wear, the elements, insects, mud, extreme temperatures, etc.

● Jacket. Hardcore UTV riders prefer armored jackets to protect them better from scratches or rollovers. However, if you ride slowly on mild terrains, a waterproof jacket with long sleeves might be enough.

● Insect repellant. This is not a joke. Your UTV does not likely resemble an impenetrable tank, so insects will have their way with you, especially if you ride on forest trails.

Now that you know what mods to consider for adventure UTV riding and what parts/tools to pack for your upcoming vacation, we hope you will enjoy the ride and build the best memories of this summer! Happy, safe trails!
