Countries with more EVs than Gas powered in 2024
These countries now have more electric vehicles

The demand for electric vehicles is increasing due to their advanced features that make driving more comfortable. Although EVs provide a lot of benefits, gasoline cars also hold significant value in the auto industry. They are considered the best transportation means to be used for long-distance travel. As technology is increasing people are moving more towards Evs. The production of gasoline cars in some countries is high but the world is trying to focus more on the EV industry. In this article, we will discuss some of the countries with higher EVs than gas-powered vehicles.
Norway
Norway is the first country to have more EV production than gasoline cars. The total amount of passenger cars in Norway is 2.8 million out of which 26.8 percent are fully electric. As Norway is considered the top manufacturer in the auto industry, the market share of diesel cars is about one-third percent of the total cars registered in the country. About 34.8 percent of cars are run on diesel. The ratio of hybrid cars is 5.4 percent and the plug-in hybrids are 7.3%. These statistics show that the production of diesel cars is more but EV manufacturers are trying to overcome this ratio by 2026.
As the country is moving towards electrification, Norway is among the top countries to have more EV production than gasoline cars. The sale of EVs in the Land of the Midnight Sun was 8% in 2023 which has helped the industry to flourish.
A great increase has been seen in the industry of EVs in 2024. 85% of the new electric cars have been manufactured that have zero emissions. Norway registered 94% more EVs in August 2024 and set a new world record. The auto industry of Norway is trying to end the production of gasoline and diesel cars by 2025. This is moving the country towards complete electrification. The government of Norway has introduced strategies like tool exemption and reducing purchases to help the industry completely move towards electrification.
Netherland
The second country with more EVs than gasoline cars is the Netherlands. About 70,000 electric vehicles were produced in 2023 which is about 8.3% of the total cars in the country. The sale of EVs is about 30.8% and about 1.1% of diesel cars were sold in 2022. The ratio of petroleum car sales was 30.4% and hybrid was 37.4%. In September 2024 a new subsidy was announced by the Netherlands enterprise agency that will help to fund the private charging station sector. In Europe, the Netherlands has the sixth largest market share in Europe in the production of EVs.The total car sales of EVs was 43% in the year 2024 which has increased to 45%.
The industry is flourishing to a great level and it is noted that the country will move towards electrification in the upcoming years. According to the Dutch Climate Agreement Netherlands will start producing zero-emission cars by 2030. It is noted that the production of EVs will reach 1.9 million in 2030. The Netherlands has started a project to produce electric vans, electric vans, and trucks in the future.
Sweden
Sweden is considered the third country to have more production of EVs than gasoline cars. The more adoption of EVs than gasoline vehicles is due to the environmental benefits provided by Electric vehicles. The total revenue of the EVs market has been increased to US$12.0bn SEK. It has increased the overall production and sale of electric vehicles in Sweden. The total number of registered Evs in December 2023 was about 63.1%. About 11,387 BEVs were registered in 2023 and the gasoline cars were only 6,121 vehicles. This is a big difference in the market share of both the vehicles which has been increasing over the last few years. In the year 2022, the sale of electric vehicles was about 50% and diesel vehicles were sold to 30% of the total market share.

The market volume for this technology will increase to over US$22.8bn SEK by 2029. It is said that the total production of electric vehicles by the year 2029 will be 345.20k. The well-developed charging stations and government incentives like subsidies for charging EVs have helped the industry to grow to a great extent.
South Korea
South Korea has made great advancements in the industry of the vehicle by manufacturing a large ratio of electric vehicles. Gasoline vehicles also hold significant importance in the vehicle industry but with the introduction of electric vehicles, the sale and demand of gasoline cars have reduced as compared to EVs
South Korea is the fifth largest automobile producer and the sale and manufacture of green vehicles(electric vehicles) has made future advancements in this industry. The first model of the EV was produced by Hundayi in 2004 and it continues to flourish. From the year 2009, South Korea has continued to increase EV adoption.
