The latest electric car technology and its role in environmental sustainability have created a positive attitude towards their use. Reducing CO2 emissions using EVs is vital in reducing environmental pollution and has made them eco-friendly. There are many reasons one should select these low-emission cars.

Demand for EVs has significantly increased in the last few years. To reach a conclusion about whether EVs are eco-friendly options, it is essential to discuss them from all aspects. This article briefly discussed whether EVs are better for the environment. For a detailed understanding, read our thorough analytical analysis of this topic.

Electric Vehicle: An Eco-Friending Approach in the Transport Industry

EVs have been discussed for several years, and research and development on them have cost millions of dollars. However, some of the important contributions of EVs to improving environmental climate are discussed below.

Less CO2 emission

The research was conducted by MITS in 2019 to find out whether an electric vehicle is a completely environmentally friendly option and has a role in the reduction of carbon emissions; two vehicles were selected for research purposes; one was a Hybrid Plug-In Car (Honda Clarity), and other one was Toyota Camry and Gasoline or Fuel powered Car (Toyota Camry). These cars were compared based on their fuel consumption, gasoline consumption, electricity usage to charge the battery, the nature of the cars (Hybrid or electric), and hydrogen fuel cell configuration. This research showed that about 350 grams of CO2 is produced by gasoline cars, whether hybrid or plug-in hybrid cars report 260 grams of CO2 emission per mile.

Another study was conducted by the US Department of Energy, which claimed that the overall emission of CO2 by electric vehicles is 3932 lbs. per year, the hybrids emit 6258 lbs. the plugin emits 6258 lbs. and the gasoline cars emit over 11435 lbs. Co2.

Both of the above-mentioned reports clearly show that electric vehicles emit comparatively minimal CO2 compared to other vehicles used in the transportation industry, which is beneficial for the environment.

Zero tailpipe emission

The direct emission of any gas from the tailpipes is negligible and can contribute to environmental pollution. The tailpipes of electric cars are free of all kinds of hazards that affect the environment. The electric generators used to power the battery can cause minimum pollution.

No adverse impacts on Climate

The Industrial Revolution has badly impacted climate change. With the advancements in technology, the release of greenhouse gases has significantly increased, which has badly affected the environment. The demand for motor cars is relatively high, which continuously affects the environment. Keeping these issues in account, the United States has moved towards the era of electric vehicles. This modernization has significantly contributed to positive climate change. The use of tailpipes reduces CO2 emissions, and now it has become a good contributor towards the betterment of the climate.

Reduction in Brake Dust Emission

Electric vehicles have very high friction with the road. That’s why advanced and compelling brake systems have been introduced and embedded in EVs, enhancing the sense of easy brake usage, and no wear and tear has been reported in them. In EVs, the traditional braking system used in gasoline cars has been updated with the advanced regenerative braking system, and a prominent advancement in EVs is a game changer in reducing CO2 emissions. The regenerative system will help to recharge the battery when required. Another advancement of one pedal system introduced in the EVs has made them stop smoothly connecting the regenerative braking system. Using the one-pedal system has created ease for the drivers; they don’t have to apply force to pull the brakes; instead, they have to leave the accelerator to reduce the acceleration. When the one-pedal system was introduced, it replaced the traditional braking system, which was producing harmful gases and ultimately affected the environment. The level of dust production by brakes was reduced significantly with one pedal braking system.

Low Use of Harmful Fluids

Lubricants and other fluids are about to become negligible in electric vehicles, but fuel and lubricants are a necessity in fueled vehicles.

Lubricants and harmful fuels are mixed into water resources, and drinking such water can lead to serious health issues. The harmful lubricants settle into the surface of the water, becoming dangerous for aquatic life and damaging their life cycles. Electric vehicles use batteries instead of fuel and lubricants. Batteries power them for proper operations, and the reduction in fuel and lubricant usage makes them an efficient means of contributing to environmental sustainability.

Improvement of air quality

The production of electric vehicles has purified the air with zero carbon emissions. It is noted that a single electric car can reduce carbon emissions and other gases by 1.5 million grams. The mayor of Landon said that half of the air pollution on roads is caused by diesel cars. The US government is taking the initiative to increase EV adoption nationwide. Electromobility contributes to making the environment green. When producing harmful gases is low, it will improve air quality. The steps taken by the US government to improve the production of Electric vehicles lead the way that our towns, cities, and countries would have improved air quality and climate change.
