The Two Thousand Nineteen Ford Fusion

Ford motor company was started by Henry Ford in 1903. From the beginning, Ford has been committed to delivering quality cars to people all over the world. The Ford Fusion was first introduced in August of 2005. Ever since, the company has worked in improving the model over the years. Ultimately creating one with efficient horsepower and an outstanding racing performance compared to other sedans. They have also pursued for better environmental vehicles as well as vehicles that can perform in case of an accident. At a starting price around $22,840, I recommend the Ford Fusion because it is the best 4 door vehicle with its improved safety and technological features, slick aluminum body design, fuel economy, and its Ecoboost engine.

The major priority of Ford is safety. They have worked tireless hours on designing vehicles that will save the lives of millions of people. According to Autotrader, a well-known online car reviewer, “In government crash testing, the Fusion received a perfect five stars out of five overall, including five stars for front impacts and four stars for side impacts. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the car its best score of Good in four of its five main categories, with the small-overlap front crash test earning the second-best score of Acceptable” (Paragraph 16). Ford has achieved its goal to protect its drivers, and the company has also worked on preventing these accidents with safety tech features.

The Fusion comes included with smart safety technology which helps prevent many vehicle accidents. This car can detect collisions before they happen, which activates the automatic braking system to prevent the accident or reduce the damage to you and the car. Autotrader mentions, “Every 2019 Fusion comes with the new Ford Co-Pilot360, including pre-collision assist with emergency braking, blind spot warning with cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control” (Paragraph 15). The car also comes with roadside assistance and 911 assist calling. This shows Ford is mindful about the safety of its drivers. Not only have they focused on vehicles that protect you, but also cars that are lighter in weight.

Ford took a brave decision to build its vehicles out of aluminum in 2015. The company wanted to build lighter and faster vehicles. They received a lot of backlash for this. The main argument was that the vehicles would perform poorly in accidents leading to more deaths. But these allegations were not true. Yes, aluminum is a weaker metal compared to steel. But Ford has only implemented aluminum to its body, not frame of the vehicles. Furthermore, this suppresses impacts so when it reaches the inside of the vehicle, the impact won’t be as brutal. This state-of-the-art engineering has really worked out well for Ford. The Ford Fusion earned a five-star rating in front crash tests, and this was back in 2015 when the company first introduced aluminum body vehicles.

The Fusion has excellent performance in collisions with aluminum. The metal has also reduced the weight and automatically turned it into a faster car. Doug Demuro, an automotive columnist and reviewer for Autotrader, says, “the lightweight Fusion sedan trims the weight of a standard Fusion, which tips the scales at around 3,500 pounds, down to the level of its subcompact Fiesta -- which weighs in around 2,600 pounds. That represents an impressive 900-lb weight loss, which is over 25 percent of its weight. That's not bad, considering that the concept car still looks just like a standard Fusion from the outside” (Paragraph 2). Weight reduction can help the vehicle reach faster speeds. The engine does not have to work as hard which in fact, ties to a better fuel economy among other benefits. Ford saves money in decreasing weight but keeps the same sporty look on the Fusion.

The vehicle has a mesmerizing appearance all around. Aerodynamics play a major role on the design. The front of the car has a bull-like look with sharp headlights. A chromed oval shaped grill make it look like the car has a mouth. The SE version comes with a small spoiler integrated on top of the trunk. The length of the vehicle measures 15 feet, with a height of just 4 feet. Electronics are equipped all over the interior of the vehicle. Back up camera, and an 8 inch-touch screen among other gadgets. You can warm up the seats when its chilly outside and you can adjust them to your liking. The vehicle blocks out most of the sounds and all you hear is the smooth 1.5-liter engine in your hood.

The Ford Fusion has an Ecoboost engine block that combines turbocharging and direct fuel injection in order to create a faster vehicle. Different trim levels come with better horsepower and acceleration in the Fusions. The SE version has a 1.5-liter Ecoboost engine which is a high-quality one, compared to other car engines. Fuel economy is excellent on the Fusion. The MPG is 34 on the highway and just 23 in the city. The fuel tank fills up with 18 gallons totaling up to around $30 for a full tank. A full tank should last you around 2 weeks depending on how many miles you drive it a day.

Some of the weaknesses of the brand-new Ford Fusion is that the 175 horsepower could make the car feel listless at times. Many dealerships offer a paltry warranty package with the vehicle. Since it is built out of aluminum body, most of the parts, after a collision, will look semi-dramatic since aluminum is not a tough metal. Also, the tires on the Fusion tends to wear off faster, leading to a change of tires more often than usual. Having the vehicle low on anti-freeze make the car feel hesitant when breaking and when releasing the break. Furthermore, when the vehicle is turned on, the display shows an animation of the Ford logo. This animation takes a little while which could glitch at times when you active the reverse camera.

To conclude, the 2019 Fusion was built to protect its drivers. Safety has been the main priority of Ford and they have accomplished that mission. Aside from that, they have designed a car made of aluminum on the outside body but remains tough in the inner frame. This engineering has worked out positively for Ford in tests and real-life accidents. From the excess weight loss, the company has also achieved a faster vehicle with its Ecoboost engine. For this reasons, Ford has created the best four door sedan in the market for 2019: at an affordable price.
