On April 13, a new model in the AMG GT range, the AMG GT C China Special Edition, was launched. As a new car positioned between the AMG GT S and AMG GT R, the AMG GT C is also priced between the two, it is priced at 1,978,000 yuan. It is worth mentioning that the official AMG GT four-door version will go on sale in China at the end of the year. For details of the AMG GT C China Special Edition pricing, please see the following table.

New car features

Like the rest of the range, the AMG GT C China Special Edition is currently only available as a hardtop. At the same time, as a more powerful model than the AMG GT S, its powerful aura is as strong as ever. With its long, exaggerated front end, aggressive front, and muscular body, the AMG GT already has a high-profile appearance, and its successors, the GT S and GT R have their body kits, one sportier and the other straightforwardly track-oriented. GT R.

The AMG GT C has the same grille and front fascia as the AMG GT S, and the wheels are identical in shape. The rear surround has two additional cooling vents on both sides, combining elements of the AMG GT S and AMG GT R, which emphasize the sporty look without being over the top. It is worth mentioning that the AMG GT C China Special Edition will be available in two special paint finishes - design matte graphite grey and design matte pearlescent white. It also features black chrome accents on the vehicle's side skirts, front spoiler, front grille, front wing side vents, and exhaust, thus highlighting the car's special character.

Inside, we can see that the AMG GT C has an identical steering wheel to that of the AMG GT R. The steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara throughout, further emphasizing its competitive feel compared to the AMG GT S. The entire interior, despite its aggressive look, remains true to Mercedes-Benz's usual style, ensuring a sporty yet luxurious look.

The GT C uses a larger area of black Nappa leather than the GT S, with diamond-shaped stitching, and the overall mountain has a more premium feel than the AMG GT S. The large area of carbon fiber in the interior of the AMG GT R is not present, so it is clear that although there are more models, there is still a clear division of style in each car. It is worth mentioning that according to the official description, the steering wheel is covered in Dinamica (microfibre), which provides better comfort while emphasizing the sporty character of the car.

Powertrain

The AMG GT C is powered by the familiar 4.0T V8 engine, which has been tuned to produce 557 hp and 680 Nm of torque, both of which are between the AMG GT S (522 hp, 670 Nm) and the AMG GT R (585 hp, 700 Nm). acceleration time of 3.7 seconds.

Background of the new car

The AMG GT is now the leading sports car of the Mercedes-AMG brand, with the entire range comprising the GT, GT S, and GT R models, and a price range of RMB 1.148-2.288 million. As the successor to Mercedes-AMG or the Mercedes-Benz brand in the flagship sports car segment, the AMG GT has a similar body shape to the SLR and SLS AMG, both of which have a front mid-mounted rear-wheel drive layout and both have extremely long front ends. Compared to those two, however, the AMG GT has a much lower stance, which is reflected in the price tag.

The AMG GT C is intended to fill the gap between the AMG GT S and AMG GT R. Such a market segment must also be forced by competition from its biggest rival, the Porsche 911 - the 911 range available in China has up to five gears of power from the basic Carrera to the Turbo. The 911 is available in China with a choice of five power levels, from the basic Carrera to the Turbo.

The competition

As for the AMG GT C's rivals, the Porsche 911 was already set as a competitor when the AMG GT was in the spy stage, and when it comes to performance and price, the GT C will be pitted against the 911 Carrera GTS, with the two in very close proximity to each other in their respective segments. Jaguar's F-TYPE has a wider price range, and its six-cylinder model is certainly not one of them, while the 585bhp, $1.988m SVR version must be counted as number one, in terms of brand, power, and price. Then there is the,e recently launched 'Little Martin', the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, which has a deep connection with the AMG GT and a price tag of $1.998 million that just happens to 'match' it. "The price of $1.998 million is just right.

Summing up

The launch of the AMG GT C is nothing more than a way of enriching the range and giving potential customers who like the AMG GT range more choice. Although the difference between the AMG GT S and AMG GT R is only 63 hp and $600,000, look at the model list of the Porsche 911 next door and you'll understand that no segmentation isn't. In terms of price and powertrain, the AMG GT C is closer to the AMG GT R. It is aimed at those who are not satisfied with the AMG GT S, but for other reasons cannot accept the AMG GT R at the moment. This 'other reason' could be price, but I guess it's more likely to be the AMG GT R's competitive looks, which may not be suitable for those who value their daily commute. Either way, no one doesn't have the AMG GT C, so look out for our test article.
