Why To Travel Right Now?

Is it actually safe to travel?

By Stacie SimpsonPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

I know we are in the middle of a pandemic and that the world is in turmoil, but it is a new year. I hope the there is light at the end of the tunnel and that we can all get some normalcy with 2021. With that the one thing that we truly have been missing is travel. I understand flights and events are getting cancelled and our reason for travel seems to not exist anymore.

I have been on been on several flights in the past 4 months and let me tell you how sanitary everything is now. I fly with delta as a member in their frequent flyer program. Everyone is required to ware a face mask and you can not even let it slip past your nose or the flight attendant will be right there to tell you to fix it. They also fully sanitize their planes before passengers are even allowed onboard and when boarding it is now boarding by row back to front. This allows for passengers to limit their exposure to other passengers. As well, there are no middle seats being occupied on their flights currently. Which as a member of the non seat selector economy class bookers, I fully appreciate 110%.

Next when you walk on board, they give you an alcohol wipe if you chose to wipe down your seat on board. I know that they sanitize those seats before I board, so I usually keep mine for my seat where I have a layover. They also give out little snack packs complimentary with cheese-its, Biscotti, water, a chocolate and another alcohol wipe. While they do not have full service this still makes it very convenient and speeds up the process.

I feel completely safe when I am on a flight and in the airport. I do not feel like I am being exposed to the virus or to being sick. I do test before I fly and when I land to make sure that I am safe to fly. And for New York's sake I can avoid constant 14 day quarantine.

I also visited Disney world multiple times in my travels. When Checking into a Disney Hotel we all went through a prescreening and had to do temperature checks. All around Disney you are required to wear a face mask other than around the pool deck of the hotel. When you arrive to the park there are temperature screenings and advanced security screenings that are less hands on and require less touching of personal belongings.

In Epcot, my party and I ate and drank around the world and enjoyed the food and wine festival. When we got our drinks and our food, we had to stop in one spot and de-mask to enjoy our food and beverages. They asked that you not walk around and eat and drink so you did not have your mask off at points while walking around. They also asked that you did not eat or drink while you were in line for attractions.

Many of the rules were enforced but if you were walking and took a quick sip of water without stopping your walk. They were not going to scold you. They were lenient to some policies but were strict to making sure that your mask was fully covering your face and that you did not take it off on attractions.

In all, it is safe to travel as long as you do it in a safe matter. Test 4 days before you travel and then again on the day of. When you get to your destination take 1 hour go and get a test done and then when you arrive back to your home test day of and again 4 days later.
