Sadly, after passing away in 1682, monk Luang Phor Thuad is said to have transformed seawater into freshwater to save a group of dying sailors, as well as done other astonishing feats. It is believed widely in Thailand that the act of walking under the belly of these elephants three times can bring good luck and prosperity to the person doing so.

Than Mongkol Cave: These man-made caves offer an additional spiritual experience for visitors looking to explore more of the Temple’s sacred spaces. They are the perfect place to snap some pics, especially of sun rays permeating into the darkness of the cave.

Rituals and Offerings

It is quite common to see visitors participating in various rituals surrounding the Wat Huay Mongkol temple. Anyone willing to buy a donation kit, which comprises of incense sticks, gold leaf, and flowers, can easily do so at the gate. These items are used in various acts of devotion and sacrifice, such as placing gold leaf on smaller statues as well as their feet within the complex or offering prayers and worship at the foot of the Luang Phor Thuad statue. What times to visit the Temple?

The Temple of Wat Huay Mongkol is open to the public daily from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and admission is free of charge.
