Visit the Places that Inspired King Arthur
The Legend of the Round Table

I think anyone who knows me will say that I am a bit of a dreamer; the type of person who lives with the fairies. I don't mean that in such a bad way or to imply that I am some great genius hiding behind wishful thinking and stories of old.
For as long as I can remember things like Greek mythology, robin hood, and other myths and legends have inspired me. I think it is remarkable that these stories are so old yet can still be found in our culture today, while there is always speculation on whether these stories are real or fiction, but lets for a moment that we have just a bit of hope, I will be talking about one of those great stories King Arthur.
I don't know how old I was when I first came across the story of King Arthur, but I would have been young very young because I was a child when the BBC show Merlin dropped, and even in my twenties it is a show I like to return to every now and again.
We all know the story of King Arthur, a story of love, loss, sacrificed, and courage. If King Arthur's legend has inspired you, then this post is perfect for you! I have put together a list of places that King Arthur might have visited during his reign as King of England. These are all popular destinations in the UK and they would make great travel destinations for any King Arthur enthusiast!
First and foremost, you should visit the city of Winchester. This is where King Arthur was crowned King of England in the year 500 AD. There are many historical sites in Winchester that are associated with King Arthur, including Wolvesey: King Arthur's palace in Winchester, this is where King Arthur was crowned king of England and met his wife Guinevere for the first time.
Another great destination is Tintagel Castle on the Cornish coast. This is where King Arthur was born and raised before he became king. It is also the place where King Arthur's father Uther Pendragon died, so it holds special significance to King Arthur fans!
If you're looking for a place with a little more magic, then you should visit Merlin's Cave on the Isle of Avalon. This is where King Arthur is said to have gone after his final battle against Mordred. According to legend, Merlin took King Arthur to the cave to heal him from his wounds and prepare him for his journey into the afterlife.
Merlin's Cave: Located in the Isle of Avalon, this is where King Arthur went after his final battle against Mordred and died soon afterward with Merlin taking care of him until he passed away. It was said that when King Arthur arrived at Glastonbury Abbey to be buried, King Arthur's casket was empty and they found an inscription of King Arthur sitting at the foot of a tree with his sword in its scabbard. King Arthur's gravesite is known as King Arthur's Stone and it can still be visited in Glastonbury. Arthur's final resting place at Glastonbury was called the Isle of Glass.
For those who watched the series, Merlin done by the BBC might recognize Glastonbury Tor which is said to be King Arthur's final destination when he travels to the Isle of Avalon. It is known for being one of the most spiritual sites in England.
So if King Arthur is one of your heroes or you're just interested in UK history, then be sure to visit these places and see where the legend began!
